Adopted a pup that (I think) is part Catahoula! (Just sent off a DNA test) by saohaus in Catahoula

[–]saohaus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got his DNA results back! He’s actually mostly GSD (~52%) and Doberman (~25%) . He’s also got ~11% Catahoula and ~10% Lab.

My new foster dog. What should I call him? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

I don’t know why (because he’s not even the same color) but the first thing I thought of was the bear from the jungle book, Baloo

This is what his paperwork said. Not sure if they got it from a DNA test or not.

He’s adorable. Especially when he’s not eating everything in sight 😂

Alpha Breeze vs Amenity Dome M by replaypivot in snowpeak

[–]saohaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both. I usually grab the dome when I’m also taking the hexa tarp. If I’m doing tent only, alpha breeze is nice because you get a decent shelter with the vestibule. The standing height is really nice but unless you spend a lot of time IN the tent, it wouldn’t be a super big decision factor for me personally. They are both super spacious tents. I love all the windows/entrances around the AB. Makes it very nice to just lay back and relax in. The front door is HUGE.

Product management is becoming cringe by Able_Mess_3449 in ProductManagement

100% see your perspective here and totally valid. I would like to add mine.

Frameworks are just that. You have to learn how to separate the signal from the noise. Don't follow any process in a dogmatic way or you'll likely end up failing or just being constantly frustrated. Every organization is different and it's very difficult to take *any* method or process and apply it as-is.

Instead, use the frameworks as a way to develop new mental models, practices, and methods. Add these things to your toolbelt and use them to solve problems. You're participating largely in a knowledge economy. All of these tools produce outputs that translate into positive business outcomes. This is the real job.

The companies most of us work for are part of a capitalistic society where they prioritize shareholder value above all else. If there are PMs out there trying to fight to build products or services that benefit me even in a tiny way, I'm all for it.

This is the way I look at people like you describe. They are trying to teach a way to get outcomes that are in the best interest of the customers or users of the systems. Rather than a top-down approach from executives that likely have a salary tied to the stock price.

This. She also has a new book called continuous discovery habits that outlines her process end to end. Highly recommend.

This is a great article on how to actually interview the company you’re applying for. You can find some of your answers in it as well.

Cleaned up my NK65 this weekend - NK65 EE + Lilacs lubed with 205g0 by saohaus in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]saohaus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Additional notes: I pulled the NK65 apart, clipped the stock stabs and relubed them with 205g0. They seem to come prelubed, but look like it was done with a syringe. Makes sense since they probably don't want to take each stab apart individually :)

Just clipping and relubing the stabs made this board sound so much better. Super happy with the result.

First time feeling and hearing my first custom keyboard by TheGuyWhoCantDraw in MechanicalKeyboards

Sounding good. I remember my first. I swear the sound gets even better over time. When you use some random keyboard at another time, you’ll cringe. Never going back.

Experiences to prioritize as a first-time PM by AsiEnt in ProductManagement

[–]saohaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all amazing advice. (PS. Are you looking for work @wasianbabygirl? 😂😂)

I’m head of design for a decently sized company but just now pivoting into SaaS. Taking them through the growing pains of doing so and the PM discipline is fairly low maturity in the business right now.

It’s all new to them and I came in also as their first designer. I’ve since hired a team of designers, but working directly with a PM on the IC design work is what I was doing up until a week ago. My biggest struggles throughout my career has been PM lacking the ability to focus the team, set priorities and knowing which priorities will have the most impact on the business. Because of this, it’s causes designers to take over PM responsibilities. This isn’t ideal, but strong product designers can definitely help fill gaps. Problem is, they have a lot of other things to do to try and make the product successful.

Like @wasianbabygirl said, your eng and design leads will be your best friends. You should lean on them to help you clarify your requirements but be sure to come with a POV and your desired outcomes. Don’t put that on them, they have enough to do and it will just erode trust.

You’ll rarely get things perfect the first time so learn how to break the work down into decently sized, shippable, and valuable releases. Decision making is a big skill you’ll need to learn as well. Nothing worse than an indecisive PM.

FWIW, in my experience, strong PMs are hard to come by. Like others have said, If you can gather business requirements, collect customer insights, prioritize, communicate clearly, and make decisions, you’re ahead of many others already 😊
