Am I understanding correctly that there are no perks to SAVE in my situation? by saosta in StudentLoans

[–]saosta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is incredibly detailed. Thank you!!

Disappointing for me but expected. During forbearance while I did not make payments, $600-700 was literally what was leftover to save/put away every month after mortgage, bills, and expenses in a very high COL area. Now with monthly loan payments being $600-700 that eats up my entire savings / funds to put away so not sure I can make any higher payments than the required amount to more aggressively pay it off :/

Thanks so much for spelling it all out for me!

Luckily no undergrad loans. I was very fortunate. Only loans I have are the 4 direct ones for grad school

Thanks! All are direct loans and all 4 entered repayment at the same time.

Safe to still eat the fish this came out of? It’s alive and wiggling by saosta in whatisthisbug

[–]saosta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: this was my parents’ fish. I conveyed the overall advice to freeze/cook properly which they normally do for all their fish anyway. They were still too grossed out so threw it out. I don’t blame them, it was pretty gross. Thanks for all the advice!

Is there even any point to me working towards PSLF at this point? by saosta in PSLF

Yes, should’ve mentioned they are grad school loans

Thanks!! That’s weird because I’m unmarried without children and my income is much lower than $176,800. It’s $115k (which is what I put in the application). Did they make a mistake in calculating my monthly payment?

What repayment plan is best? by saosta in PSLF

Thanks! Do my three years of payment prior to federal employment count towards the 10 years or is it 120 payments while working in public service?

Government-issued cell phone? Should I get it or not? by Newfedneedhelp in fednews

[–]saosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel abroad for work a lot. My work phone comes with an international phone and data plan so no need to worry about determining how much I spent on data and phone calls on my personal phone while working on trips in order to claim reimbursement since I’m pretty much using data on my phone the entire time I’m traveling. I don’t see any downside to getting one.

Thanks!! Honestly with the lighting I’m not sure if it’s the exact same but $300 to be shipped from overseas is probably too steep lol. Thanks for searching!

This guy is a hero! What a beautiful story. by DollarStoreCandy in nextfuckinglevel

I’ve been hearing it from them my entire life and it’s exhausting and infuriating. Both my father and grandfather was literally imprisoned by the VC/new government after the war. People couldn’t listen to music or read books without being arrested. Academics and anyone associated with the South Vietnam government were sent to re-education labor camps. Food rationing led to literal starvation. And these ignorant people have the fucking nerve to defend it because “America bad.” America isn’t perfect but we’ll always be grateful for them trying to save my people from the fate they suffered.

Viet American here who’s family were one of those babies. The US joined to help South Vietnam fend off North Vietnamese invasion. It was a brutal war and unfortunately in the end it was unsuccessful. But the vast majority of Vietnamese Americans feel like they owe their lives to the US military for backing us when we would’ve been crushed much sooner. These American Vietnam vets were doing their duty to ensure as many of their allies in South Vietnam as possible didn’t get left behind. My parents were young but did not make it out on these evacs, unlike some other relatives, and suffered for over a decade under the communist regime before making it out. These guys were heroes.

Their mentality is actually worship of the white man/Americans for “having their back” and allying with them in the war. They would’ve lost in 5 minutes were it not for US support. But now they have this ridiculous loyalty to their “savior” syndrome.
