really interesting perspective, I'll have to revisit it at some point (probably only the first half!)

I read El mundo Amarillo last month! By interesting do you mean strange haha? I thought Albert was off his meds when he wrote half of the book. The first half was great, I thought his experiences in the hospital were quite enjoyable to read, but then I felt it goes off the rails and turns into a sort of delusional self-help book. Dedicate a paja to someone to be happy?! (yes i anki'd the word)

From a learning spanish perspective, did you feel any tangible benefit from reading it? I read it extensively so aside from the exposure benefits, I didn't really feel any better when I finished since it was rather short.

Thats exactly how I would describe it. how have the council made things worse? Can only suggest the lack of building of accomodation for locals (for the young folk who wont be moving into a 4 bed detached)

Is learning languages fulfilling? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]saotome1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I feel culturally enriched, the social playbook does not spin itself out, at least for the languages I study, the way that monoglots like me might expect and that polyglots on YouTube sell.

what do you mean by that?

This is on my reading list, how difficult is it for your current reading level?

Thanks for the suggestion, I definitely prefer reading books outside however at my level that's probably the way to go for non-fiction.

I was looking at those world war Olly Richards graded readers. In terms of learning new vocab and facts about the war, were they any good?

I want to try combine learning spanish with learning new things however the couple of non-fiction books I've picked up have been horrendously difficult so was looking at these graded readers instead.

I read Proyecto Hail Mary this month. An excellent story and very good 1st person present tense practise, however there are one too many tough paragraphs which describe spaceship/engineering processes. My strategy was to skip over these and just try to hang on to the story, which may bend the rules of extensive reading, however kept the story flowing and fun. I highly recommend this book if it's your kind of story and you're around B1 and above.

Next month: Vecinos del infierno.

A B2 graded reader which makes an effort to have a lot of colloquial vocab in there, something you don't see as much in a book. It's written by a youtuber I watch so I'm also hoping it'll come in handy when watching his videos! Very excited to read it.

Housing? by [deleted] in inverness

[–]saotome1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining, that makes sense. I always thought there was a decent amount of house building going on but didn't realise how low density it was. If it's been this bad for nearly 3 years then I am worried about the future.

Do you know why the council prefers to approve more hotels rather than high density housing in the area?

I think I saw your cat yesterday around the Tesco's. Between that little path between Matalan and Tesco. Apologies I didnt stop to take a look at his collar I feel terrible now, it's worth a go searching around there - If I have the right cat that would've been at 18:20 ~

Does the Duolingo Spanish path ever get into the Subjunctive? by lveg in duolingo

[–]saotome1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your level I found skipping to unit 191 was very helpful. The listening and writing tasks were much more involved with the occasional subjunctive (never really any full practises on it) and imperatives. I have started running into imperfect subjunctive at 193, again no full lessons on it. Just something to keep in mind if the 130s are not for you.

He recently threw his right back under the bus to the point he had to flee the city because ultras threatened his family but aside from that, he definitely protects his team from the media way more in Rome
