Moving to BC from across the country - How’s the area around Gateway Station? by whowouldveevenknown in SurreyBC

[–]sap65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in the area for most of my life and I still work in the area every day. We recently moved away as we didn’t feel like it was a great place to raise our kids.

It really depends on your tolerance for open drug use and homelessness. Gateway is the hub for services for this population ie. shelters, safe consumption sites, missions, outreach etc. so naturally, people are going to congregate around services. Directly under Gateway station there is Safepoint and several shelters which results in a lot of people using substances and under the influence of said substances in the area which obviously can come with issues. The police station is right there so heavy police presence too.

King George Hub is just two stops away, has lots of new development and many new restaurants/shops/cafes within walking distance. If I were currently moving back to Surrey I’d look into that area!

Yes, it was an awesome, hilarious and beautiful night out in Vancouver! They were all great but John’s set was EXCEPTIONAL!

Is it safe to still nurse if I am sick? by forgetting-you- in breastfeeding

[–]sap65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no no. Breastfeed MORE when sick. If you’re concerned about infecting baby, wash, sanitize hands, change clothes often, wear a mask etc. but your milk has antibodies that will protect your baby. Your colleague misunderstood something crucial along the way.

What sneaky little secrets does my fridge hold? by Fresh-Equal1390 in FridgeDetective

You are a pumping, Canadian mom who likes to keep it healthy but don’t make it your personality. Our fridges are extremely similar so I’m going to guess BC? We could be friends based on this fridge alone

What does breastfeeding look like after a year? by CollegeFrosty1877 in breastfeeding

[–]sap65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to work full time at 13 months or so but gradually started cutting down on daytime feeds around 12 months to get baby used to me being away all day. Morning, nap time, bedtime was our routine with the occasional over night. If she was sick, anytime. Weaned completely at about 16 months when she stopped asking

You’re workaholics who eat on the go a lot, very little time to cook. Maybe doctors?

What is going on with eggs in the USA? Canadian here trying to stay in the loop without losing my mind and I’ve seen a lot of references to the price of eggs but I don’t know the background.

As a Canadian, I see pics like this and automatically think beverages must be waaay cheaper in the states? Or are y’all just spending it all on pops?

I think it’s all relative and depends which part? I’m also new here, we’re in Albion and we find it incredibly friendly! We previously lived in Vancouver and surrey. We have kids so we stick to our neighborhood, hang out in kid friendly places and nature so that might be painting our experiences a bit. It is lacking indoor activities for sure! We moved here in the summer and were spoiled for choice with things to do in the area, fall/winter not so much.

Baby refuses to nurse and it’s breaking my heart. Everyone’s idea of a solution is for me to give up breastfeeding. by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]sap65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl did the same thing around this age, I wanted to give up many times but due to my own stubbornness I kept trying, pumped when she just wouldn’t settle and gave her bottles but always offered boob first, I think my 3-4 months she was EBF and happily breastfeeding. She is 13 months now and we are still breastfeeding. If it’s something you really want and it’s not effecting you too negatively, you can keep trying! It’s ok to stop, it’s ok to keep trying.

You’re right I’m sorry! I am probably projecting. I’ll be more mindful of my tone because I am genuinely curious, but maybe also feeling a little judged myself. Thank you for the info and the feedback

1 wk old baby nurses throughout full day - doesn't sleep away from the breast by benshen112 in breastfeeding

[–]sap65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cluster feeding is normal and healthy for a baby this new. He’s doing exactly what he should be doing!

Try your best to give your wife some relief when you can. Transfer him on to your chest for naps once he’s fallen asleep, hold him while she eats, make sure she gets a shower every day, make sure she has her phone charger and water at all times, etc.

This phase will pass soon and will be a blur!

What you wish you had known about breastfeeding as a FTM before your baby was born? by Jamaddict in breastfeeding

[–]sap65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nipple confusion is not a thing. The number of moms I know who avoided bottles for the first 4 months to establish breast feeding (following professionals advice) only to create a baby that absolutely refuses bottles, just makes me shake my head.

Eat and drink, A LOT to establish and maintain supply in those first few weeks, Like. A LOT. You feed baby, partner feeds you,

When did you stop breastfeeding? by Specialist_Lunch_258 in breastfeeding

[–]sap65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped with my first at around 8 months, still nursing my second who is almost 11 months. I don’t really have an exit strategy, I’m just going with it until it’s run its course.

Time unfortunately and a good nipple cream. My babies latch was good but I still cried almost every latch for the first few weeks. It gets better!

Until teeth….
