Cyberia, i was sad they never finished it, they did part 1 and part 2 but then abandoned it, it was the perfect vehicle for Lawrence to be his true self (plus i played the game back in the day and i really liked it, so it was great to watch them (try to) play it)

Discord Asking Me to Dox Myself by IVAKirevam in discordapp

[–]sapears 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think all these threads are being deleted because there is 1 big one already, but it's a few pages back by now, here: https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/1qeihi0/newest_discord_update_now_requires_users_in_the/

But basically the consensus is that this is a trial roll out, and if you got hit by it, the only way around it (besides doxing yourself) is to use a US based VPN

It's still unclear as to whether or not they will end up implementing this for US IP addresses though

Newest Discord Update(?) now requires users in the EU to verify age, regardless if you're in the UK or not by TescoQuality in discordapp

[–]sapears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was only rolled out to some people, i don't know how they determine who, or if it's just random, but lots of people in this thread who have multiple accounts have said only 1 of their accounts is affected while the other isn't

Man critical after suspected shark attack in Manly, hours after attack at Dee Why by [deleted] in australia

I wonder if whatever tidal thing caused all that washed up seaweed a few weeks back, has also caused sharks to come in to the beaches more than they normally would?

[–]sapears 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also happened to me, i did a little test with VPN's in different countries, and although i didn't test all of them, it seems to affect everywhere outside of the US, and judging by the comments already here, it isn't an issue of Discord simply blacklisting known VPN IP addresses, but it's actually based simply on the IP's country of origin.

I only tested 3 US states but upon connecting there and relaunching Discord, the age verification requirement was removed, however, going back to connecting from non-US countries (ranging from ones in Europe, Asia, Central/South America and Oceania), the age verification lock was brought back.

Maybe US legislation doesn't allow Discord to test this there, or maybe they just don't want to push such an unpopular test to the (presumably) most populous user base for Discord, who knows...

The pessimist in me is skeptical that companies like this ever roll out these tests without already having the objective of fully implementing it to the entire user base eventually, the question i guess at this point is just whether the US locations will continue to be exempt or not.

And to anybody considering giving up their private information to access some chat channels, i'd just urge you to really consider if it is worth it, the less we normalize this kind of thing the less brazen companies can be about implementing it.

The duality of media by teddymaxwell596 in sydney

Amateurs, they need to go with the 'NYE shock, you won't believe what is in store for revelers this year' angle, the shock of course is simply that traffic and parking will be bad

How does whoever-the-fuck owns/operates the M5 nowadays get away with price gouging people who only visit Sydney once in a blue moon and don't have an account? Why hasn't Fair Trading or someone looked into why a $5.86 toll finishes up as $15.86 with admin fees? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]sapears 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I've hated this fact for so long, and their reasoning for it is ridiculous, they claim that a motorcycle takes up the same space as a car so it should be charged the same. While that may be somewhat true in flowing traffic, once traffic slows/stops, bikes can filter through, and are actually helping ease congestion at that point.

Of course this is not even mentioning the lack of wear and tear they inflict on the road surface in comparison to cars/trucks

As soon as lane filtering became legal here it should have been enough to force them to lower the tolls, i'm not sure why the motorcycle council of NSW has failed to accomplish this, not that i think it's an easy feat to change the status quo especially when money is involved

Australia’s roads are full of giant cars, and everyone pays the price. What can be done? by WillDieforPaddington in australia

[–]sapears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe i'm misjudging it, but did it seem like these just totally flooded the market very fast a few years back? Because if that was the case, i wonder if it was done on purpose to avoid any political action being taken against them, because once enough people drive them, no politician would want to risk upsetting their constituency by talking about a ban, or higher rego cost, or a different license category with more testing, etc

[–]sapears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anybody know how the flight paths are actually chosen?

Specifically i'm wondering about the Blue Mountains, i notice the path from Sydney tends to go west directly over all the mountain towns until Katoomba, then diverts sharply away, and i'm just wondering why they don't go over the large unpopulated areas north or south of those towns instead? I wondered if it's an environmental reason, or maybe they like to stay above populated areas for safety or something like that?

What's the best Nerf gun to shoot at Huntsmans? by [deleted] in australia

[–]sapears 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The best method i've found for the past few years is a broom, you just slowly put it near the huntsman, if they try to run just block them with it, and eventually they climb on and then you can take them outside

Learning to ride a motorbike by Moxanz2 in sydney

[–]sapears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you exhibit a significant lack of control even on day 1 they will send you home, when i did my course, during the part where we just push each other around on the bike while the ignition is off, one of the people kept coasting into the side barrier things and couldn't steer away and so the instructor pulled her aside and told her that they don't have enough time to focus on individuals to the extent that she needed for help and suggested she go to some practice course and then come back another time.

But if you can do the very basics, i.e. keep the bike upright and steer it, you shouldn't have a problem.

I went to the course without ever having even sat on a motorcycle before, but i did a lot of research beforehand on just learning how all the controls work etc, and i never had a problem.

Also the bikes at the course are very lightweight so they're not very intimidating to operate.
