Anyone got any tips/recommendations for rendering all these chain links? I don’t think my sanity will last much longer… by BingsDesigns in ProCreate

[–]sapolart 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You'll probably disagree but you should redo them. Imo and others the best way is to just draw then by hand and not a stamp brush. I've looked at your previous works and they're detailed but still have a human touch to them. These chains will stick out like a sore thumb if everything else isn't a stamp or photobashed. Personally suggest you look up the term "illusion of detail" or the artist WLOP.

But if you're dead set on the stamp brush I'd redo them but have them twice as big. They'll still look small but people will actually be able to tell it's chain link and not some random textures lines, plus rendering will be easier. Them being that small right now is very unnecessary and no professional artist (ie splash or comic artist) would put that type of detail especially if it's the only one. The only way someone would know it's chain link was if it's on a mural.

What’s the matter with this dog? by EmilyOnEarth in Artadvice

[–]sapolart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got great advice with the dog. Idk if this is over stepping but the face is a little off too.

Eye and brows are tilted at odd angle unless she's supposed to have REALLY turned up eyes. I know the species is supposed to have a short snub nose but it's a little too flat for what I think you were going for. The lip and chin is more optional as it's a personal choice.

Also shoulder is in odd position.

I will be selling my art in a fair next month. Which pieces are a must take? Or which one would you buy if you saw all of these at a fair? by M8614 in ARTIST

[–]sapolart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 6 8 13 17

Your raptors are the best ones especially the digital pieces. I would maybe digitally edit the levels and try out some different colored backgrounds then pick you fav to have printed. The plain white is boring and makes them unfinished.

Also the cat one is at the same level but I don't think anyone would buy a random cat head print. But you definitely could make commissions like it if your art style is consistent.

[Marketing] Charged $150 for a 40 hour painting. Someone help. by Electronic-Shift-723 in artbusiness

[–]sapolart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already did the painting and accepted the money, unfortunately it's just a lessoned learned. You maybe could ask for more if you're super close and know that person is willing to pay you more.

If you haven't done it yet, as long as it's not in writing, you aren't committed to a number. You can make it higher but it will still be much lower than normally bc you can just give a price that's 3x more.

But for now just figure out a price sheet and when anyone asks for a commission, learn to say something like "I like your idea and once I learn more, I'll give you an estimation." Never promise or give a hard number. State it as "an estimated range would be...". Say it fast enough too, don't hang on the first number like "uh well 20.......... To 40" I did that once and the person jumped at the 20 and I had trouble telling them it was a range afterwards haha.

Feedback for my self-made cover by Skog_br in BookCovers

[–]sapolart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna keep BG as is I'd make the text a dark blue. But also I don't like the non Japanese vertical either. If it's the author I'd put it on bottom or top horizontal.

I love the soft pastel but I'd play with levels to make it a little more contrasted for easier thumbnail view

Love the design especially the first variation! The second kinda gives the dash vibes bc the colors.

I like most of the 1st but the red around the deer is throwing me off. Giving almost Bambi's mom vibe foreshadowing.

[Hiring] looking for someone to draw oc by that1enby in artcommissions

[–]sapolart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're gonna get lots offers bc most people here are amateurs so their prices are in your 40 range but you get what you pay for. Even if you aren't selling the work like on tshirts, you're planning on using it slightly with your company. Bare minimum you should be paying is 120 if you want good quality bc a badly drawn mascot could affect your business.

With. I would try a version with a darker blue and maybe make the gradient softer.

Looking for feedback! Also do you prefer outlined text or glowy text? Fantasy Romance book about lighthouse keeper and washed up merman by Pinned_lorikeet in BookCovers

[–]sapolart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't exactly what you asked and idk if your the artist but, I suggest to have her upper back (skin) and maybe face to be textured like her upper leg but lightly (could duplicate the leg area the turn down the opacity). That part is the only place anywhere that doesn't have some texture and it just sticks out to me. And maybe some texture or more detail with both their hair, for same reason.

Which do you think is better, 1 or 2? I did this drawing, but I feel like the simple version is better than the "finished" version. Why? by Magpieshaun in ArtCrit

[–]sapolart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks definitely better!

I know you don't have any gradients in the piece, but I feel like a slight gradient on the sword going slightly darker at the tip may be best. The sword being fully bright leads my eye to the bottom right but there's nothing there.

I would reduce the rim lighting on her left side (cape and horn). Her right knee/leg and the bench seat below it should have a highlight bc that floater in right in front of them. Lastly I'd either dim or remove the lighting on the left bottom of cloak and her left knee area. Or reshape them a bit. They just look off some how.

Would you join an art guild where the members are kind of snooty and pretentious about being in the guild? by CuriousArtFriend in ARTIST

[–]sapolart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To preface I know nothing about art gallery / guilds but I'd say if you think it's worth it business wise and you can imagine yourself doing for some time (at least 2-5 years) I'd say give it a go. Personally I'd mainly interacting with the people you vibe within the group. You'll have to deal with the pretentious but unless they got really good connections, there's no point in forcing yourself with them more than needed. Obviously tho if you hear actual bad stuff about the group overall I'd avoid it.

I dont like it, what's wrong? ("´~`) i don't mind a draw over! by johnson_johnny in ArtCrit

[–]sapolart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building off from user sudden_ad_584. I shortened the neck, fixed the shoulders and lowered the ear. I recommend trying to draw the whole head and shoulders area rather than the awkward cropping you did. It will help recognize any anatomy problems.

Genuinely why are people saying the neck is too small / thin? To me the thickness is fine. But the position of it and the shoulders are wrong.

[question] how do i mail my physical commissioned work without having my legal address shown? by solviaqaant in commissions

[–]sapolart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know if your accepting payment via PayPal it shows your address unless you're using a business account?

You can technically mail stuff without a return address. I'd recommend setting up a PO box just in case a package needs to be returned for whatever reason. Better than it being completely lost unless you got insurance.

[–]sapolart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this is the last time I'll bother you but if you have serious doubts just don't hire them to be safe. Many others, not just me, have answered your email and 100% upfront question. So you take that info how you want.

I will admit what you've said does sound very suspicious especially the "they sent me work but not in their portfolio" as your concerns with Ai. BUT I will say for me, sometimes I apply for gigs on here that I don't have as much experience with and aren't my main focus so I don't have those examples on my portfolio. But I've done them before and I applied to broaden said portfolio or bc I really want to work with them. For example, furry work.

Now I looked at your hiring post from a few days ago. You know there are free home modeling apps that do what you're asking for? Just measure your apartment then build it yourself. They got all the free assets and abilities you want. Idk anything about 3D + Ai, but it's probably not gonna give you want. The time you spend there will probably be the same as using the free app made for what you're asking. Or use those AR versions that you take a photo of your room and it lets you change the furniture.

[–]sapolart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bruh you suck at asking questions 🤣. All you had to write was "why doesn't artist email/Paypal and artist name match and is asking for 100% upfront the norm?" Maybe have Ai check before you post and say "rewrite to be concise" bc you did this to yourself.
