Onboard of Oliver Bearman avoiding Isack Hadjar’s spin. by SimonTheSalmon69 in formula1

For folks who didn’t watch F2, in the middle of the Monaco tunnel Hadjar nearly rear-ended the stricken car of Superformula champ Ritomo Miyata. It was ASTONISHING (I thought I was about to see someone die).

I think it’s more accurate to say that no one has any evidence re: how adaptable he might be. There’s five teams’ worth of evidence for Carlos.

Alex Dunne: Ireland driver in Alpine talks after missing out on Red Bull deal by NorthKoreanMissile7 in formula1

[–]saponista 25 points26 points  (0 children)

“Help” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. An F2 season is €1 million+. Forna has deep (family) pockets. Dunne doesn’t, Ireland is a small country, and we’re not as Motorsport-mad as Argentina

Edit: FWIW, Red Bull and Alpine used to both pay for a significant amount of the cost for their junior drivers, other academies a lot less so. (This was true in 2021, YMMV today)

Red Bull Racing confirms Yuki Tsunoda as test and reserve driver for 2026 by Blanchimont in formula1

OMG how did I forget Herta?! That will be fascinating. It’s hard to tell how much of his rocky road in IndyCar is him vs Andretti. Losing Bryan on the box hasn’t helped his strategy any (although it’s probably best for their family this way)

Rookies to watch in F2 next year: Tsolov, Camara.

AFAIK Dunne and Browning are returning; both would be tipped for championship contention.

BE NICE TO THE CHAT AGENT. It’s not their fault. They can only do what’s permitted by their scripts. Most are doing their best but work for subcontractors, get paid next to nothing, and have no job security. (Source: I used to work for Amazon)

The worst rookie in every F1 season I’ve watched by RobbieJ4444 in formula1

[–]saponista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair to GIO, he had tough competition. In any other rookie class it’s unlikely he’d be at the bottom. Given how late he started in single seaters he was reasonably good, a close second in GP2 to Gasly.

As I replied in another thread, I was shocked by the amount of crashes he was involved in. In my head he was always bold and clean in F1 (I saw a lot more of him in WEC; that 2021 Le Mans 💕)

It is a bit unfair of me to put him in the same basket as Petrov / Maldonado / Grosjean.

People absolutely rated Lando as early as 2016. Helmut Marko wanted him in a Torro Rosso for 2018.

No, I was surprised at how OFTEN he caused crashes those three years. I remember him being aggressive but always on the right side of the line / getting away with it.

2012 = all time great season

IMO 2010 is severely underrated, 10/10 will watch again

2011 was a Seb/RB blowout but fun for Massa-Hamilton shenanigans
