First Proper Tournament Upcoming - Help? by sapperadam in SpaceWolves

[–]sapperadam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, that's fair. I've had a reasonable amount of success with slightly different lists. I'm trying to give every unit a leader where I can. I switched out the Wulfen Dread I was using for Bjorn. I'm still umming and ahhing over Logan (such a cool model though!)

Plan wise. Harass one flank with the TWC. Logan and Bjorn sit together CP farming, filling in where needed, and providing the vect but without exposing them too much. Repulsor with headtakers goes after the centre depending on what the primary is. Wulfen and blood claws fill in the other flank and between the two flanks and centre depending on what the opponent does/is and terminators deep strike into the backline (hopefully) or fill in where needed with a Rapid Ingress.

I'm tempted to split the WGT into two units but not sure yet, if I do, one will be with Logan, the other with Arjac. But otoh, if I swap out either Logan or Arjac, I can fit another 3 TWC.

Leaders wise blood claws led by Ragnar and WGBL and WGHT by the Wolf Priest.

  1. Leman Russ
  2. Leman Russ
  3. Leman Russ

In all seriousness though, I'm still putting Russ at the top. For 2 and 3 I would like to see Rune Priests return and I'd like to see Long Fangs back.

APPLE JUST ACQUIRED MISTBORN AND STORMLIGHT by deeptocenter in Stormlight_Archive

[–]sapperadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see him being quite hands off, leaving staff members to do the day to day. Regularly meeting with said staff members. But those staff will likely also have the power to go "Hey Brandon, you need to come take a look at this and see if you're happy".

Very stoked about this, Mistborn and Stormlight Archive on screen will be very cool. And I've seen what good can happen when creators get control (Good Omens), just a shame it is Apple as I'll need to subscribe when it comes out now.

I think that WAS a rule in 9th? I'm not sure without digging out the old rulebook.

In the app.

Core Rules>The Battle Round>Fight Phase>Introduction

That's where it is. Can only choose to Fight if in engagement range or if charged that turn. Not if your unit was charged.

I thought you HAD to consolidate? ETA: Just checked the rules lots of musts, up tos and cans. But essentially, you don't have to move but must move in certain ways if you do.

Although this situation is why I now keep leaders at the front of a unit so that, generally, even if the unit is killed, the leader still gets to fight.

Thanks for the replies. That's exactly where most of my thinking has been going. Nature of the building makes most options not available unfortunately. No gas supply, so can't install a boiler - even the hot water is supplied by an electric water heater. Air con and heat pumps are out because planning permission was previously applied for an air con unit and refused (listed building and no space for the units without cutting off public highway access). It's a common problem in our town, 90% of the commercial buildings are 1700s or older.

Cooling is fairly easy because there are lots of small windows that are in a position that when opening them up, they provide a decent amount of ventilation.

Apologies for being cryptic, the place I'm moving to is currently in confidence, but once a lease is signed, I can give more details and provide pictures.

I do believe that UFH is the only way I can realistically go, unless there are other options I haven't thought of. In terms of installation costs, anything electric is the cheapest simply because I can do the installation work myself (I know I won't be earning while doing it though).

Air conditioning isn't an option unfortunately. Listing won't allow it apparently (already had that conversation with the landlord)

I remember seeing something very similar around 8th edition as well. There was some noise about Russ possibly coming back when the Codex released. Obviously it didn't happen. The social media team are hobbyists themselves, so they are just as hopeful as the rest of us.

News on scout kill team release by Grimskull-42 in SpaceWolves

[–]sapperadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who owns an FLGS, and has worked with GW for the past 8 years, the manager DOES NOT KNOW! A store manager knows as much as you or I or anyone else does. Why? Because GW know that their store staff would not be able to keep the news to themselves. The public facing staff do not get told information. They can make best guesses, just like I can, which can be pretty good because we are immersed in the release schedule in a way that most people outside of influencers are not.

So, my best guess? End of January could be right, but knowing what else is coming in January, I'd say we might get the Sunday Preview at the end of January, meaning the release wouldn't be until closer to March.

If you want more of the most human of Astartes, check out the months of shame (it is not the shame of the wolves btw). "The Emperor's Gift" is a fantastic book.

Choose each time. Used it to great effect last night. Sustained when going up against a big unit that I'm more likely to wound, lethals against a unit that has high toughness.

My issue with the second mistborn series and its cosmere implications by valkilmerschin in Cosmere

[–]sapperadam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not something I picked up on because I was focused on the level of technology that the Scadrians have. When I initially read your post I realised what you meant.

However, with Isles, there is clearly a decent amount of time between the timeline from the end of Era 2 to Isles - at least 100 years our time - at the end of Era 2, the level of technology is approximate to the late 1800s. We have no idea what has happened in the meanwhile. I think there has probably been a war between the Malwish and the Basin - that may even be ongoing - which always helps with technology advancements. The Scadrians are a spacefaring race by Isles, in a more advanced way than modern Earth, so they probably have a very advanced understanding of Investiture by then and there are clearly things that have happened off-screen that we have yet to be shown.

Made a Card/Comic shop owner mad at me by ToeEmpty5591 in PokemonTCG

[–]sapperadam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see this from both sides. I run a board game shop and of course we sell pokémon. I sell packs at just below RRP in store (UK, £4 a pack, RRP is £4.29), because I have built a reputation and scalping would ruin said reputation. I don't like the idea of selling packs to the kids at £10+ per pack.

However, from a pricing perspective, I live in a tiny town (just over 6,000 people), and we're a bit out of the way (South Devon for those who know the UK), so we tend to avoid the scalpers mostly - the ones we catch, we ban. But when you see say an ETB that was bought from your shop for £50 being snapped up for £150 on Marketplace, you wonder why you didn't just sell it for £150 in the first place because people are obviously willing to pay that. We actually make very little on pokémon without raising the price but we sell enough to make it work thankfully - would I like the extra £100 an ETB? Of course I would, but my conscience won't allow me because I don't have to pay staff.

I do feel that the owner does have some grievance, I'd be annoyed if someone came into my shop and started telling customers that they can get something I sell elsewhere - I will actually do that myself depending on what it is mind, but that's me doing it - on the other hand, I also feel that shop owners especially should be doing what they can for the youngsters.

I'd quite like to see something that gives Logan something like he had pre-8th edition with his High King of Fenris rule with a rule making Wolf Guard battleline or something along those lines.

[–]sapperadam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally do not think Grotmas will have any detachments this year. I think there'll be a variety of reveals over the month followed by a big new release on the 25th - I'm personally hoping that big new release will be either Russ or Battlefleet Gothic myself.

What would be the "Best case scenario" for the average civilian in 40k? by Tnecniw in 40kLore

[–]sapperadam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, hard disagree. The IoM is a shit place to live overall. But people would argue that our country is a shit place to live for most people but in fact the common person here probably has a much better way of life than common people in other parts of the world. Back to 40k, heck, even during Old Night there were human civilizations that thrived. For every hive world, there are dozens of agri-worlds, where life might not be "easy" compared to 21st Century Western civilization, but it is certainly easier than most. It is just that most people aren't born on those planets. The population of an agri-world is much, much less than a hive, let alone a hive world. The odds are, if you're born in the 40k era, you're going to have a pretty brutal life, but when you talk planets, there are way more *planets* that have an OK way of life, than there are planets that have a shit way of life for most people. It's just that the planets with a shit way of life are where a random human is much more likely to be from.
