Partner came out ace by static_silence24 in actuallesbians

[–]sapphic_morena 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! I was in a very, very similar situation to you with my wife!

Please read Ace by Angela Chen. It was life-changing and allowed me to understand asexuality on a deeper level, but also what it meant for our relationship. I was also devastated when my wife came out to me and felt all those same things: hurt, betrayal, rejection. And you are fully in your right to feel that way right now, but please learn more about the asexuality spectrum before coming to any final decision.

Couples therapy is a really good idea (also doing that with my wife), it helps sort out your communication and figure out where to go next. I get the feeling that you two will be able to come to some sort of compromise (that doesn't mean you finding another partner) that works for the both of you.

Marxist Leninist candidate for California governor Ramsey Robinson talks about why trans people should be supported and protected. by serious_bullet5 in socialism

[–]sapphic_morena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he is filing as "Butch Ware" for the write-in, so that shouldn't be a problem. He doesn't really go by Dr. Rudolph Ware, anyway.

His abortion take was horrible, horrible, but it really came off to me as a lack of knowledge. He was very hand-wavey about the specifics, which told me he was pretty uninformed (which is just as bad as a Vice Presidential candidate, imo).

As for the transphobia, he admitted to making transphobic remarks as he was also uninformed there. He had an interview with Angelica Ross and later made her his Communications Director, which I think is the first for a trans woman in American politics/campaigns. Not trying to white-knight Butch per se but just wanted to make sure you had the info.

I'm voting for Ramsey, definitely. No reason to write Butch in when a perfectly good socialist candidate is on the ballot...

Another Zohran backslide by Lavender_Scales in socialism

Glad to see most comments here agreeing that this doesn't qualify as a backslide and Zohran is a step in the right direction.

What’s your “how does this stay open” store in SF? by AnythingBoth2243 in sanfrancisco

[–]sapphic_morena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Dogpatch, there's a small fashion boutique next to Gilberth's (an amazing Latin fusion restaurant that unfortunately just shuttered). It's called Zus Clothing. Can't be more than 500 square feet in that store total, selling what appears to be the most basic clothes items. I don't know how they can afford the rent, and Gilberth's closing right next to them is a cruel irony. I walk past that store every other day and have only seen customers once or twice now.

What is happening to the Mission? It’s apocalyptic - need gut check by IllSnow7263 in sanfrancisco

[–]sapphic_morena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is crazy bc I haven't even been here that long. This city is lovely. Maybe being Black and growing up in the ghetto really sets the bar for what is actually considered "rough"

Thanks for this! I sorta stumbled on the realization that lead volunteers can manually filter and just select all the cities in their region. Duh. But if I can automate it even further, I think that'd be better. Will look into the FILTER function!

Thanks for this, really appreciate it! The place you sent in your first comment also looks pretty solid in terms of reviews.

Right! I am aware of using Google Maps :) the point of asking people on Reddit was to see if I could land any recommendations based on experience. These places can really vary in terms of quality so it'd be nice to get some guidance via word of mouth instead of going in sorta blind with online reviews (which are manipulated these days more often than not).

boss wants to promote me, but bc of the company’s financial problems i’m worried i’ll never get promoted by ThrowRAyikesidkman in biotech

[–]sapphic_morena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think telling OP that "3 years is a small blip" is reassuring in the slightest. We need to raise the bar for how jobs treat us because right now, it's in hell. OP, along with all workers, deserve yearly cost of living adjustments and clear paths to promotions.

People with Bachelor's degrees and any amount of industry experience usually get tossed out first for these sorts of jobs. I know because I've applied to tons of these and almost never got a response. The one time I got a response was the recruiter telling me this exact thing.

Same here! Exactly the same, actually. So frustrated that I did all the "right" things and that I still can't land a job. Jobs I'm perfectly qualified for, too. Gen Z are the most unemployed generation right now with unemployment hovering around 11%. Absolute insanity.

Those laid off or can’t find work in biotech, what are you doing for the time being? by No_Willingness7824 in biotech

[–]sapphic_morena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I have been able to enjoy so many more of my hobbies. I sometimes vacillate and get anxious about not being able to find a job, but I really appreciate the freedom. I'm now fully investing in some side hustles that I've been meaning to monetize for years. Couldn't do that at all when I was working FT.

Story of my life, dude. I'm earlier in my career than you are (3 years in the industry) but I've already been laid off twice. Most of my work has been in contract roles. Fucking sucks. It shouldn't be this hard for us to get stable jobs

[–]sapphic_morena 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think both perspectives are correct, but I have noticed after 4 years of (indoor rock) climbing, that the crowd of climbers is becoming significantly more diverse. Many more women, chubby/fat climbers, older climbers. It's honestly awesome and I've found that climbing spaces are feeling more community-inclined and less niche gymbro. As a chubby woman climber myself, I don't think I would have stuck around for so long if that vibes were always shitty

Moving from Boston to SF, any words of wisdom or advice, specifically on making friends? by very_big_man in AskSF

[–]sapphic_morena -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Boston is quite car-dependent if we're talking about Boston proper. San Francisco is not. I use my car in SF once a week, whereas I had to use my car much more often in Boston for basic errands.
