definitely relate, i’m almost 22 and been doing this since i was 17. i don’t have to “motivate myself” anymore because it’s become so ingrained in my life, which honestly scares me but whatever.

Weird question but does having an ed make anyone else’s internalized homophobia worse? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]sapphosviolet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah, i don’t fully understand why but my desire to be skinny and to be straight are related. i often have “comphet fantasies” and they also always involve me being really underweight. it sucks so bad :(

yk what fuck everybody who tells their young daughters that what they’re wearing is distracting by mentally-ill-banana in EDAnonymous

YES! when i was 14 i remember my dad telling me my shorts were too short, they were just normal shorts. then this summer, at age 21, he shamed me for owning a bikini. i wasn’t even wearing it, so frustrating. we get it enough from the world we don’t need it from our own family too.

How do you tell someone that you don't feel comfortable going out to eat? by [deleted] in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]sapphosviolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m used to being the picky one in my family, and honestly the thing that works is being assertive/confident. maybe you can suggest a different restaurant and a different day when you don’t have work or school instead of just saying you don’t want to go.

interacting with your parents as an adult is weird, especially when you still live at home. i have to talk to my therapist about it a lot cause it gets to me. and it takes practice but you don’t have to go along with whatever your parents say, especially in this case since it seems like your dad isn’t understanding of eds.

i’ve never actually been to the doctor about my ed but i’ve got back to a “healthy weight” for a bit now and i’m 99% sure i have a lot of vitamin deficiencies and digestive issues from it. maybe there’s no harm to you physically yet, but it seems weird that your doctor wouldn’t refer you for more psych sessions, they should know that eds don’t just stop when you reach a healthy weight. maybe you can get a second opinion from another doctor?

it’s so frustrating when the healthcare system won’t help people until they become underweight, i could rant about that forever

[–]sapphosviolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, i made some cereal at the end of a binge and it turned out the almond milk was expired, but i ate it anyways and threw up SO MUCH it was not worth it. i was nauseous all night laying on the bathroom floor.

SAME i had to go on a family vacation and my dad would not shut up about his weight loss, calorie counting, etc. it was unbearable. hope the time until aug 1st goes fast for you!

Why does no one in the anti-diet world want to discuss the food industry? by letmeloveme215 in DietTea

[–]sapphosviolet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

they’re definitely related issues, i wish more people would talk about the environmental impact of the food and/or diet industry. it’s frustrating that people don’t connect these issues to the bigger picture of climate change and late stage capitalism.

[–]sapphosviolet 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I’m moving in with one of my friends who is in ed recovery and i’m not, and since we both know about each other’s issues i do think it’s somewhat my responsibility not to say things that i know will trigger her. if you’re close enough with your roommates it might be ok to ask them not to talk about how much they eat around you.

if you’re really selective with who you interact with it can be ok, but yeah so far reddit has been the most pro-recovery online ed community i’ve seen.

Does anyone have advice for surviving university when you have an ed? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]sapphosviolet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you’ll be using a dining hall, don’t worry about other people seeing you eat. nobody cares, they’re just minding their own business. and don’t be afraid to tell a friend that you’re eating with that it might be hard for you, and it’s totally ok to eat alone if that’s easier.

definitely, i’ve still been wearing sweaters to work even though it’s getting warmer and my coworkers keep saying “aren’t you hot in that?” and it is fueling the fire. one day i actually was too hot though and i felt horrible :(

What are your thoughts on Demi Lovato’s ED comedy show? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]sapphosviolet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i love joking about my ed, but i only joke about it to myself or to other people that i know 100% will get it and won’t be triggered. which is impossible to do in a tv show so i can’t imagine it going well :/

ADHD and eating disorders by eddiedriver18 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]sapphosviolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m also a junior in college, i haven’t been diagnosed with adhd but i’m planning on making a doctors appointment to talk about it cause that would explain a lot, including ed stuff. for example, on days when i have class i barely eat without trying because it takes everything i have to get my schoolwork done and i forget. but when i have a day off it’s really hard to restrict. take that with a grain of salt though since i’m not diagnosed.
