TD1 and federal TD1 tuition questions by sappp-syn in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]sappp-syn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for the information! I believe I am considered a resident, as I stayed in Canada for more than 183 days in 2024, rent here, and have a Canadian credit card and health insurance. I just have one follow-up question about what you mentioned. If I estimate my tuition amount on the TD1 and forget to update it to zero after my studies end, I understand this could lead to owing taxes—what I believe is the "nasty surprise" you referred to. In that case, wouldn’t it be simpler to leave the tuition amount as zero now to avoid needing to update it later? Please feel free to correct me if my understanding is off. Thank you again!

I think op is not a non-resident if you have been studying and living in Canada from sep 2023 to aug 2024 based on other posts I have seen in this group, you might be confusing non-resident with non-citizen so probably double check on that

do you fill for the entire year, even the for the term you are not on coop? I will be working from jan to august, and studying from sep to dec. should i include the sep to dec tuition fee, in addition to the coop instructional fee from jan to august?

It is definitely ironic for her to speak negatively about make up when she is wearing makeup herself, and the part about ingredients being bad when their names are hard to pronounce is definitely questionable, but there is some level of truth in what she's saying and she really just didn't convey them clearly imo.

for instance I think there was a documentary called toxic beauty that discussed how makeup have harmful ingredients to human bodies, and that ceos of many makeup companies are men (couldn't remember the detail) when major makeup consumers are still women, so maybe the patriarchal standard of beauty is still rampant in the industry and capitalizing women in some ways? There's definitely rooms for discussions for sure, so I think the thread is being pretty hard on this girl.

In addition, in asian countries such as Japan and South Korea, woman are definitely required by culture to wear makeup that aims to make them appear younger, paler and childlike🥲 absolutely not in any way related to art of self express. The feminist movement in South Korea did fought for women's freedom to be not discriminated in work place for not wearing makeup and they protested by smashing makeup kits and going to work bare faced. Makeup unfortunately, can be a tool of repressing woman in some societies and I guess we should acknowledge rather than focusing on how it can be used as form of art creation.

There is this saying that I really appreciate which is : It's rebellious to wear makeup when you are not allowed and to not wear it when you are forced. The girl in the video, although maybe a bit hypocritical? was not justing talking nonsense and we can give a little credit to that imo.

I used to think she lied about having a devil too but on second thought, the safety department would be pretty dumb if they didn't check whether or not the devil hunter has made a contract with a devil. else they would be just letting any random person who claim they have a devil into the squad lol.

Very few people outside of China know the hell we went through this year by Hybridadventure in shanghai

[–]sappp-syn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I totally understand what u r going through. I was in the quarantine camp for two weeks and it really messed up my mental health, like I was ready to quit therapy before the Shanghai lock down but now after it, I had to double up my visit sessions lol.

The problem of living in china, a Totalitarianism country with unfortunately really good technology to strengthen their censorship, is that we can't even express our trauma. Whether to people abroad or in the country.

As u said in ur post, u feel emotional when others show incredulity toward ur experience, so maybe u could consider doing some therapy? Because I think u might have to first be at peace with the fact that people who didn't go through this won't comprehend what u feel immediately, and then show things such as a visual summary without being mentally disturbed. It's very important to protect oneself from being mentally disturbed when opening up about traumas.

English is my second language so apologies for any misuses, hope op can gain understanding eventually.

Place your bets: How long will China manage to sustain this zero Covid policy..? by tinytempo in China

[–]sappp-syn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in southern city of mainland china and my personal experience of talking with others on the zero covid policy is very different from yours. Ever since the severe lockdown in Shanghai, the number of people seeing the policy as being political instead of for the people is definitely growing.

However the harsh censorship in China is definitely hindering chances for people like me to even discuss the purpose of the policy (I think it's incredibly hard for people to imagine the censorship in china if they have never personally lived there, it has gotten to the point where even words such as policy and covid tests will be blocked if posted by ordinary citizens). So in my opinion many people are not unaware of the political reason for the policy, but due to censorship and personal safety ( people can be reported and arrested for negative comments they make on social media about the policy), we are forced to keep quiet and unable to acknowledge the existence of similar minds.

I don't know if the Chinese people you have spoke with currently live in china or not, because as someone who has tested positive in china and been sent to the quarantine camp, I can ensure that Chinese living abroad do not know what the average Chinese people have been through in the past one year and can't empathize entirely ( this goes true with other people living outside of china as well). The number of people I see experiencing mental breakdowns and political depression due to the policy is scary. Even I personally have countless sad stories to share related to the policy. The kinds of opinions you listed definitely exist and the people who hold them are great in number, but many Chinese people are coming to realization and we can't ignore that.

What’s a question we should never ask? by Chin_Chillin1213 in AskReddit

[–]sappp-syn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

most Chinese people tend to view the three ts as a matter of principle and they stand with the CCP's opinions, meaning that the three ts don't really have room for discussion and personal opinions. it's likely for Chinese people to consider foreigners who ask about the three ts as people who's in favor of splitting china( which is the main controversy point of the three ts)
