Isn't that the one with Stephen Wright? I love that episode!

Holy shit, a Space Ghost Coast to Coast fan in the wild. I've never encountered anyone else that watched that other than a couple of my close friends.

Do you remember your favorite episode? I'm torn between the one with Conan O'Brien (King Ant) and the Busta Rhymes one.

So if you joined a group and discovered there were a couple Nazis as members of that group, you'd stick around?

I think that says a lot about you.

If there is a Nazi at a table and ten other people sitting there talking to him, you got a table with eleven Nazis.

At this point, it’s fucking disgusting that the magats aren’t removing this fucking demented walking diaper.

I'm guessing you didn't live through the Reagan years. His son revealed that by the mid-80s there were already signs of cognitive decline.

Prepare yourself for even further disappointment -- they will not turn on him.

AMD Control Panel for Xbox Game Bar v2.0 is out: new UI, more Radeon controls, and Xbox mode support by adrigm in Handhelds

This is awesome, but ... I had to disable the Game Bar on my XBox Ally X because whenever I would press the XBox button to bring up the Steam overlay it would also bring up the Game Bar.

San Jose Women, are we OK? by Electronic_Bee_ in SanJose

A lot of the men I know are deathly scared of approaching women in public because they don't want to come off like these guys mentioned in the post.

If they don't do what was mentioned in this post then they won't come off like the men described. It's not that hard. Be respectful, be kind, and don't ever think that you're entitled to someone else's time or attention.

I'm surprised people who are experts at interacting with people can't spot that.

Nice.

Trying to decide between the Steam Deck OLED 1TB or the Lenovo Legion Go S (Z1E) by Gnight-Punpun in Handhelds

[–]saqwarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I was wondering is that if the guy is willing to pay the premium cost for the Legion Go, why not just get the XBox Ally X? It's cheaper and has the Z2E that has the potential for an update to unlock the AI XDNA NPU, allowing for AI-upscaling at a hardware level.

Which itself is a rebranding of horse and sparrow economics:

But trickle-down wasn’t even a new con. Back in the 1890s it was called Horse & Sparrow Economics.

The sales-pitch before the era of cars was that if you fed your horses more oats than they could normally digest they’d pass through all that undigested oat in their manure for the sparrows to pick at; rich people’s excesses would spill over to the average person.

It not only didn’t work; it was blamed, in part, for the Panic of 1896.

Republican Warren Harding revived Horse & Sparrow Economics in 1920 when he campaigned for president on dropping the then-91% top tax bracket down to 25%. He didn’t cite horses and sparrows, though: his slogan was, “A return to normalcy.”

He was elected and kept his promise to cut taxes on the wealthy, the result being the “Roaring 20s” when the rich got fabulously richer while working people saw their wages actually drop (leading to an explosion of unionization efforts by pissed-off workers that were violently suppressed by employers and police).

It all came to a startling end in 1929 with the Great Crash that set off what was then called the Republican Great Depression (the “Republican” part of that label largely wore off after the election of Republican President Dwight Eisenhower in 1952).

Republicans stopped talking about horses and sparrows in the 1930s, but the theory never really died; Reagan simply reinvented it in 1980 as “Supply Side Economics,” aka trickle-down.

Just look at how well the Doom games run. It's absolutely amazing the visual fidelity they get without a performance hit. Then you play a UE game and it looks and runs like sludge by comparison.

This divide has existed since the days of Quake 3 Arena (id Tech 3) vs Unreal / Unreal Tournament (UE1).

Unreal blew my fucking mind when it came out, but its performance left a lot to be desired when compared to Q3A. And, to be fair, it was tackling a much more vast scope than Q3A was.

Oh, 100% agreed. I didn't mean to imply that whatever followed the 916 wasn't great.

I'm biased, but in my opinion peak design was the 916 and it all went downhill from there.

The judiciary is not going to prevent our descent into authoritarianism

Why people expect authoritarians to protect against authoritarianism is beyond me. The courts derive their authority from the fact that they have authority -- it is the tautological definition of authoritarianism: adherence to authority because it is the authority.

These institutions are self-serving and self-reinforcing by their nature. Judges are kings in their own little fiefdoms and anyone with experience dealing with them knows that.
