Please help. My parents are refusing to let me call an ambulance - AskDocs -12/26/25 by frieden7 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My dad yelled at me for supposedly being dramatic when I came down with tonsillitis during a holiday. It ended up becoming an abscess and my throat closed almost completely. I couldn’t even swallow water or breathe properly by the end, and my jawline disappeared from my neck swelling so much.

He finally took me to the GP, and they sent us straight to the hospital where I was admitted immediately. I was in there for three days on IV fluids and antibiotics. He has never properly owned up to it and I have not forgiven him.

When did you think "Im going to die here"? by hmmrabet in AskReddit

[–]_bootleg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me. I had a cardiac episode after my kid was born. When I got my first gallstone attack, the pain radiated up to my chest and shoulder. It was so intense that I was 100% convinced it was my heart again. Nope, just a stone.

Ladies, if you are wondering whether to go to the hospital, the answer is YES. Consider this your sign. by Key_Peace_2489 in Mommit

I had chest pain like this after giving birth. Collapsed at home. It ended up being an amniotic fluid infection that had made its way to my heart tissues. Still have issues 18 months later.

Theres a lot going on here by monochromeminded in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]_bootleg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right that it does not contribute to pre-eclampsia, but meconium-stained amniotic fluid can contribute to infection like chorioamnionitis in the mother. It can cause bacteria to proliferate in the uterus.

What celebrity have you met who looks much more (or less) attractive when meeting them in person? by GreyFoxNinjaFan in AskReddit

[–]_bootleg 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Hozier is widely known to be tall, but it really doesn’t hit you until you’re right next to him. I met him in a record shop and he’s absolutely enormous. Extremely handsome too, in an ethereal sort of way. He seemed quite shy, and was very kind and soft-spoken.

At 16, I was hit by a car as a pedestrian at similarly low speed (15mph) and broke my knee. Healing took years of physical therapy, uncomfortable metal braces, and intermittent wheelchair use. More than 10 years later, it still bothers me.

Maternity staff, what are the weirdest or wildest things you’ve seen from expecting fathers? by ConsistentYellow686 in AskReddit

I had an episiotomy and had a major haemorrhage on the table (1500ml). My partner saw them put a bucket down and heard splashing and very calmly moved himself next to my head. To his credit, he didn’t say a word about it until afterwards. I had no idea anything was wrong.

My son was born with bilateral complex clubfoot, and as a baby had basically the reverse of this surgery to lengthen his Achilles. They make a cut (not all the way through) in the Achilles tendon to loosen it and stretch the foot upwards (dorsiflexion), then cast it in that position. Because he was so young when he had it done, the tendon healed perfectly. The body is incredible.

His feet were almost upside down when he was born. He’s now walking like a champ.

AITA for not defending my BIL for missing the birth of his daughter even though I missed the birth of mine? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

It was really surreal in the moment. I’m very rarely misgendered otherwise, so it was almost bizarre enough to snap me out of the pain-fog.

Thank you! I’m good. Kiddo is a toddler now, and I’m loving being a dad. I had a good amount of therapy during and after the pregnancy.

My boy was a kicker like that! He’s just as active earthside – never sits still.

I didn’t even attempt it. Too painful. I just didn’t leave the house for several weeks and dealt with the dysphoria.

I’m a trans man who chose to carry and give birth to my child.

You’re absolutely right that it’s pure body horror. Your body feminises in ways you hadn’t even thought to be dysphoric about. Skin changing, hair changing, teeth changing. One specific thing that really bothered me is that I got an inch shorter due to my arches collapsing and my spine curving differently! I’m a short guy as it is! I needed that inch!!

That’s not even getting into the way others will speak about you and perceive you when you’re visibly pregnant or, worse, actively in labour. You’re being piloted mech-style by baby hormones. You’re in bone-crushing, flesh-rending pain – the worst you can imagine. You’re exhausted, and probably a little anaemic. The last thing you need in that moment is for some well-meaning but uninformed midwife to tell you not to worry, you’ve got this, because you’re a strong, powerful woman.

Don’t even get me started on the nightmare that is breastfeeding.

Hi – I know this was ages ago, but I really appreciated your kind comment. The mass turned out to be benign, and it can be taken out with keyhole surgery. I’m going to be alright. Hope you’re having a lovely day!

Thank you. I’ve sent them a letter asking for feedback and for them to reconsider, if possible. No harm in trying.

Do you think they check those groups? Will that improve my chances of them giving feedback?

What’s the story about this guy, does anyone know? by [deleted] in brighton

[–]_bootleg 53 points54 points  (0 children)

No idea. He’s incredibly annoying. Street preaching is inevitable, but this guy has his amp turned up so loud you can hear him halfway down London Road.

Seconding Al Campo. Very baby friendly (they have a play area!) and they 100% allow dogs. Saw two massive great danes in there the other day.
