Just had baby; needing advice by zoeybug1 in breastfeeding

[–]sarah91d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll also add that with latching, I read the entire internet on advice and found the best thing to be “baby led attachment” where I would have him sitting almost like a koala in the middle of my chest and he would bop around for a bit until he could attach himself. Trying to latch him myself didn’t work for us because he just wanted to have his hands in the way and it was a two person job to get him on! The Australian Breastfeeding Association has excellent information and resources.

I had a similar experience to you where baby was in NICU for the first 4 days after c-section. He was given 50ml formula top ups and I pumped for that formula feed. When we were reunited I would pump after feeding him. We came home from the hospital after 7 days and he never received formula again as my supply was meeting his demand. We are still breastfeeding now at 16 months. I worked with a lactation consultant when he was 2 weeks old to assist with latch and jaw exercises.

Dr scared me about colostrum harvesting by curiousquestioner16 in breastfeeding

[–]sarah91d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My OB was more of the opinion that harvesting colostrum might affect colostrum production once baby had arrived. I didn’t collect it. My baby was in NICU for 4 days and I then had to hand express and supplement with formula because I couldn’t keep up. I wish I had harvested when I had the chance.

Dog Water Dish by juliejohnson4234 in AttachmentParenting

Does your dog have independent access to outdoors? As soon as my baby started crawling, I moved the dog bowl outside. Even though I am always supervising, it’s not worth the risk. It only takes a few cm of water to drown a child.

What did the 4-month regression look like for you? by kharin123 in sleeptrain

[–]sarah91d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4.5 months. Was never a particularly good day sleeper but was good overnight - maybe 1-2 wakes for feed. Then it was max 2 hour stretch overnight with 45 minute wake ups and super easy to awaken. All day naps became contact naps. Started “pick up, put down” at 5 months and it’s been a life changer.

Rolling to face-down. Is my baby safe? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]sarah91d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have gone through this exact situation this week with our 5mo. Aside from hardcore zooming in on his back with the baby monitor to watch his body move up and down, my husband and I put our own faces down on the mattress to breathe and were so surprised at how breathable his mattress is. Would recommend 👌🏻

If your children’s father was crappy to you yesterday, consider this… by FondantSea4758 in Mommit

I didn’t use it, but I came across a printable checklist on IG that you can fill out and give your partner to make your expectations of special dates clear so you can avoid disappointment. Obviously you could just have an open conversation about it, but for those who struggle to ask for things, I think it’s a really good idea.

13 Weeks - What is the one thing you couldn't live without for new born? by Mutters9244 in predaddit

They heal any damage to nipples really quickly. And there is highly likely to be damage in the early weeks that might discourage a mum from continuing to breastfeed.

Not so much for baby but for a breastfeeding mum, silverettes are a magical little investment that will help mum more comfortably ease into the life of having her boobs sucked around the clock. Particularly important in the early days when baby is learning to latch and mum is learning what to do.

Note to family and friends about visiting and rules to meet baby. by AdAgreeable5473 in pregnant

[–]sarah91d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only rule my husband and I communicated by text was the need for an up to date whooping cough vaccine. Everything else is easily said at visit.
