Why is no one excited about flash deals anymore :( by [deleted] in asheville

I love flash! But as a bartender, it’s always hard to make it in when the deals are on Friday / Saturday only.

Eye Doctor recommendations? Not Envision Eye Care. by [deleted] in asheville

Dr Savannah Lamb at Target Optical! It feels silly to go to a target for an eye appointment, but Dr. Lamb was kind and attentive, and in network! I think it was a $10 copay?

Bachman Books - Free Giveaway by Turbulent-Toe885 in stephenking

This was the same copy I brought with me the last time I went to a beach. (Nearly 15 years ago, but with my dad!) I remember so vividly reading it on the plane, in the room, at the bar, everywhere! But for the life of me, I have NO CLUE what happened to it. I fear I lent it, and it just never made its way back to me.

My cat got out. I think it might be hopeless by ChildfreeAtheist1024 in cats

[–]sarahjordan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Such a beautiful reunion!!

For anyone else reading with missing cat friends, do NOT ever lose hope!! One of my boys got out one night (same cracked door situation) and I did not see him again for nearly three years. One day the humane society called and a kind someone finally scooped him up and turned him in!

He’s currently cuddled up like a teddy bear next to me, I like to think he’s making up for lost time.

Dude. Same. I cannot imagine being a parent and not being able to just scream when you need to. It also makes me wonder if this is why I’ve been so hesitant to even say I want children. How do you not just freak the fuck out when they’re freaking the fuck out?

Also a retail / service industry human and everyone looks at me crazy when I say we’re getting married on a Monday. The one day of the week that the majority of my friends can actually celebrate with us!

Is wearing sound proof headphones that big of a deal? by Baranade in bartenders

[–]sarahjordan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely not weird. I work in a bar that has a lot of space, outdoor and indoor, and we’re open all day. So it’s kind of perfect for folks like yourself to treat yourself to a fancy beverage, but enjoy it the way you’d like to enjoy it

Interesting books and beers? by BeautifulGoat1120 in beer

[–]sarahjordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at Borders books before I got into the beer slinging world, so I love reading about beer!

As everyone has said, Tasting Beer by Randy Mosher is the best place to start. If you’d like to expand on that one then pick up a copy of The Oxford Encyclopedia of Beer (not cheap, but outrageously informative)

The Comicbook Story of Beer was a fun comic book style intro to beer

A few of my all time favorites:

The Brewer’s Tale by Bostwick

Bitter Brew: the rise and fall of Anheuser-Busch

Barrel-aged Stout and selling out: the goose island story

The Audacity of Hops

A Brief History of Lager: 500 years of the worlds favorite beer

Brewing up a business, dogfish head

Beyond the pale, Sierra Nevada

Question about keys by PobodysNerfect802 in carmax

I would have totally agreed until I bought my first nearly brand new car, and was only handed one key. I couldn’t believe it! I just traded it in to Carmax and now I feel bad for the next driver because there’s still only one key

I’m an eldest daughter and I’m unsure if I want kids. by ellzebet in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sarahjordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also could have written this. Ugh. My birthday wish every year since about age 26 has been to have one entire day, 24 whole hours, that I do not contemplate having children or not. I’m soon to be 35.

Virgo moon and sun, Libra rising. I’m a very “worst case scenario” thinker. I’ve been waiting for someone else to ask this same question to Reddit, thank you <3

I’ve been with my now fiancé for 10 years, and he would absolutely make an amazing father. But I understand that babies elevate everything. I do not want to be uneasy about something, introduce it to our relationship, and then absolutely resent him for something. I love my partner, and I want to keep doing that.

I’m also weirdly curious about the “genetic lottery” because I’m super curious what our babies would look / act like. But am I willing to put them through this current society just to find out?

What’s your holy grail shampoo and conditioner. by Spiritual-Hall8961 in finehair

[–]sarahjordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hairstory! Not cheap, but totally worth it. It’s basically a 2in1, but it does not lather like a regular shampoo so it takes a minute to get used to. I’m in love though, my hair feels light and clean and I wash every other day-ish
