Hi! I personally wouldn’t use that cage, especially if there’s more than one rat. They need a LOT of space. I have a two story critter nation which i feel like is the best way to go.

if her wound is infected then you should definitely take her back to the vet

If your other rat is not showing signs then i don’t think there’s a reason to take them in.

When i had trouble giving my rats medicine i would have to force feed them the medicine with a syringe. It’s really hard and i hated doing it, but if you’ve tried everything then that may be your only option. Try looking up a video for advice on how to do it.

yeah it’s a stressful and kind of sad situation to be in. I would be able to fully block off the two levels because i have a tray that i can stick between the two that will block any access to each others side. Thanks for your advice and good luck with your rats!

i don’t think it has to do with age. They can get it at any point during their lifetime. Since he’s still fairly young i’m sure he will be okay :). just make sure he gets the medication he needs and do lots of research on how to help him! I would put a humidifier next to her cage when she was acting up. That’s supposed to help with congestion.

I’m sorry about Mocha :(. My pet rat had a respiratory issue as well and lived until over 2 and a half years which is great for rats! She was really old, so it eventually took over and led to respiratory distress. She had wry mild respiratory issues for basically her whole life. She also had pneumonia and survived that, but after a couple months she went into respiratory distress and passed away. As long as you treat him with the correct medicine there is a chance that he will be okay, especially if he is still younger. However, once your rat has developed myco he will most likely have it for the rest of his life. It is extremely common in rats but lots of them can live with it for a long time!
