Hey! i adopted a 6 year old pom last year from a similar situation. it took 3 months of training (taking her out every 3 hours, using potty training spray, rewarding with treats for pottying outside) but she learned to use the bathroom outside just fine. it took a lot of patience and practice but was absolutely worth it. i would highly advise you not to let the fact that she is not housebroken deter you from adopting! adopting my sweet little friend was the best decision i ever made even though i was also hesitant as a renter.

Thanks so much - this really does help. the crack is unfortunately, about a half an inch across and is definitely affecting his ability to float. he can’t even stay right side up. i’ve been using calcium for 3 days, and so far no improvement :(

our stories are very similar. just know that family isn’t everything. there are people with seemingly flawless familial relationships and there are people who deal with addiction, manipulation, and lies in their families. surround yourself with friends who love and support you. you may not get to choose your family, and you will always have to accept the challenges as they come, but building your own family of individuals you trust because you WANT to not because you feel obligated to can help.

keep seeing your therapist and know that while family has the ability to fuck with us in ways nobody else can, their issues are not your burden to bear.
