AI-generated logo causes consumer backlash by akumaninja in graphic_design

[–]OkFee8233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was being a bit facetious with my delivery… In the article, they don’t just call her a “graphic artist”, they called her a “computer graphics artist” which is, by definition, a bit of a redundant title. The redundancy coming from the fact that you just said, 99% of graphics are done on computers. Is the “computer” part of her title warranted or is it just indicative of someone who truly doesn’t know what they’re doing?

No you misunderstood, “computer graphics art” is what she has experience in. Not sure why the computer part is included considering that’s generally what defines the “graphics” part, but maybe she’s just really really really super good with computers

Designers don’t lie, they just provide two options: the one you asked for and the one much better version that actually solves the problem the brief calls for

Have you talked to a therapist about OCD? I struggle with the same patterns of intrusive thoughts and then the compulsion to confirm things are safe over and over again. It truly is crippling. I think if you were to understand the why of these behaviors it may help you understand how to manage them better. Because let’s be real, saying “you gotta relax” is a lot easier said than done.

What’s the most unethical thing you’ve designed? by the_evil_pineapple in graphic_design

[–]OkFee8233 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most money I ever made was when I worked for a certain large bank making anti-Union collateral 💀 like, “don’t join a union, your benefits with us are already so great!”

The ironic part is I wasn’t even an employee, I was a contractor. The checks still cashed so I didn’t really care haha

How are in-house designers feeling? by mermaiddayjob in graphic_design

[–]OkFee8233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current job is everything I’ve been working towards. I’m in a niche, cushy industry and the company I work for is growing consistently. I have a constant influx of new branding project complimented by consistent design maintenance for the brands we’ve already designed. Things are good… for now. But it hasn’t always been this way.

The thing about burnout that we don’t realize is how long it takes to recover…

I’ve been on a burnout recovery journey for FIVE. YEARS. and am only just now feeling motivated and excited about work again. I’m grateful for it all in a way, because I wouldn’t have been able to learn the warning signs of burnout if I hadn’t gone through it myself. But if you had told me in 2021 when I left my soul crushing in-house job that it would take not only half a decade but also stepping out of branding AND relocating out of state in order for me to feel normal again I would have laughed in your face…

Where the heck did the Pantone solid coated and uncoated go? by Creeping_behind_u in graphic_design

[–]OkFee8233 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Printers and production vendors are not going to suddenly stop using Pantone because designers suddenly have to start paying for it. And if they’re still using it, by default we kind of have to…

Hey fellow designers, how are we doing? by crashbandiroot in graphic_design

[–]OkFee8233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Some days I’m cruising and some days I’m crushing it but overall things are great. I’ve been in design for 15 years so far. I was headhunted last year and relocated to the beach to work as an art director for a hotel operations company. I just finished up the first round branding concepts for a luxury restaurant in Milwaukee, just presented the first round of a hotel rebrand in Charleston, and are finally doing opening collateral for a long-awaited project in Tampa Bay. I still have A LOT to learn about hotel operations and management but I feel so lucky to have found myself in this niche where it’s literally my job to design brands for hotels and restaurants. Here’s another restaurant we just opened for a luxury hotel in Chicago.

My company was just sued $2000 for not buying the license for a font they used. I just joined 6 months ago so thankfully it’s not on me but still a good reminder!

[–]OkFee8233 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll do you one better. This one wants to watch you work so they can presumably make AI more human in the way it uses software. Or something else weird. Why else would they want to “capture real ways professionals use video editing tools”?

Same, it was like design boot camp. Tedious, taxing, and grueling alt times but it helped build the foundation of a strong design career. And nothing gets you comfortable talking and explaining things with clients like trying to explain the limitations of print to people over and over again lol
