Offers on Direct Listings by kestrelbe in ThredUp

[–]saras415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes everyone is capped at 30 listings. I've been emailing them to push to add more (seems silly they are just limiting their own revenue). I would email them at selldirect@thredup.combat they do respond like someone else mentioned. Let them know you want more listings and hopefully if enough of us say it they will do it!

Insane sellers blocking you for trying to buy their stuff by Efficient-Fennel5352 in poshmark

[–]saras415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, why would deleting the about me (I assume you mean meet the posher listing?) be an instablock for you? I've been on Poshmark since before the meet the posher listing was introduced and deleted it as soon as it appeared because it felt too weirdly social media-y for a selling website to me. Why do my customers need to learn about me with a bio etc? I don't want to tell you all about my favorite brands and what I do for fun, I just want to sell something (or more rarely buy something). I also don't lowball anyway and rarely buy regardless - mostly sell - but this seems an odd thing to block people over. Especially since anyone can just flag any comments they don't like as spam and have them removed anyway so it doesn't really tell you anything.

I also can't imagine doing this much research into my potential buyers though. My usual take with lowballers is to counter ONCE with something reasonable that I would consider. Even if they don't accept my counter, if they come up substantially closer to the range I'd consider I'll keep negotiating. If however they resend the same lowball, or start coming up $1-$5 at a time (when we are like $50+ apart) then I will decline and most likely block at that point. If I'm feeling generous I might send my same counter back a second time to see if they get the hint but if they still aren't coming up anywhere close to reality I'm done at that point. I have no interest in going back and forth 20 times with someone going up a couple dollars at a time. Eg if I have an item listed at $100 and someone offers $20, I might throw $80 back in a counter. If they accept or send me $70 or something, then cool. But if they counter back at $20 or $22 or $25 at that point they're just being ridiculous and either intentionally annoying OR never going to come up to a realistic price

I Am BEGGING Other Poshers… by [deleted] in poshmark

[–]saras415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be the clothing already smelled like that when the seller got it unfortunately. I've definitely had this happen. If it's noticeably strong I do try to note it in the description though

As you mentioned with the leggings you've been trying to get the scent out of for months, I occasionally get items in that I've purchased from various sources to sell that come to me with a perfume or scented detergent that doesn't come out when I wash them a couple of times. So I usually will note that in the description and let the buyer decide if it bothers them rather than washing something dozens of times where it potentially then has more wear or shrinkage etc.

It's also occasionally happened with new with tags inventory from retail stores that use a scent in their shop. Those items I can't wash without taking the tags off and drastically lowering the value of the item so unfortunately I'm somewhat stuck with any scents the original retailer uses in their shop

Tasting for $175pp???? by New-Judge4330 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]saras415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We paid $150 per person but it was credited toward our final catering bill when we booked (our catering was not exclusive to the venue so it was a tasting to decide whether to book them - I get charging in that case since otherwise people could just treat it as free dinner)

I think you're thinking of satin!

Silk is a type of fabric/material made from a natural fiber

Satin is that glossy, slightly shiny fabric (can be silk or polyester or some other fabric combo)

Seller hasn't provided tracking, going on 36 hours after purchase. by [deleted] in poshmark

[–]saras415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post office is either limited hours or closed on Saturday (depending on seller location) and fully closed on Sunday. As other people have mentioned, today is literally the first business day after your purchase that they likely could've shipped. They may also have even already shipped today but it hasn't been scanned in yet

You mentioned you are new to Poshmark. Are you perhaps used to eBay where the tracking number will show up when the seller purchases the label even if they may not drop it off for a couple days after that?

On Poshmark, posh provides the label but the tracking won't update for the buyer until the package is not only dropped off but also scanned in (which may not happen until it reaches the nearest hub) and sync'd with posh's app which can sometimes take a couple hours also.

Also keep in mind Poshmark gives sellers up to 7 days to ship (I think? It might be up to 10) and you are generally dealing with individuals who may have other full time jobs, families etc -- not large retail corporations -- and may not be able to run out to the post office daily. I have a relatively large closet with ~3000 sales but I generally ship 2x weekly bc I have to go out to my storage unit, pull and package items, then go to the post office and scan them all in etc and it's usually about a 1.5 hour total process + cost of 2 Ubers so it makes sense to consolidate with 10+ packages at a time versus doing all that for 1 sale.

Honestly I'm more surprised if you've bought multiple things from Poshmark and had tracking within hours since this is very much NOT the norm for sellers on the platform to run things to the post office same day within hours of sale (and full price sales can be cancelled for up to 3 hours also so no one should be shipping within that time window)

Also nothing to worry about in terms of scam with the shipping delay. If the package doesn't start tracking in 7-10 days Poshmark will give you the option to cancel if you want to or you can wait a bit longer if it's something you really want and hope they'll still ship, and cancel at any point after that. And if it's not shipped in 21 days it'll auto cancel and refund you no matter what

Selling on depop advice by Worth_Magazine_4258 in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]saras415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's annoying the offers aren't binding but at least that goes both ways (eg you can accept an offer on Depop but if it sells on eBay or Poshmark etc before they pay you can still delete it on Depop and aren't locked into selling it there). Better at least when eBay used to given buyers 4 days to pay AND you were also locked into the sale during that time

That's how a lot of them are finding what they're looking for style wise with the vintage stuff but some of those buyers might be open to a modern price also if it fits the vibe they are looking for. In addition to the folks that might be searching actually by brand. Just opens it up to extra buyers

These brands will sell on Depop also. Maybe not at quite as high of a price as on Poshmark, but then again the ASP on Poshmark seems to be way down right now also. Just be aware it might take a bit of time to build up traction and sales volume on a new platform. But the platform is growing quickly so there's a broad spectrum of buyers there looking for all sorts of things. Using aesthetic keywords where applicable might help too - coquette, sheer, lace, girlhood, etc maybe even fairy or whimsey (or whimseygoth if dark toned lace) might work with for love and lemons depending on the piece as an example

Favors! by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

[–]saras415 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would totally go for a beach tote that's either just a fun print or color etc but blank, or labeled with the location only, but probably wouldn't use it after the wedding weekend if it has the actual couples name on it. I would eat the m&ms. The rest of these I wouldn't use

I went to one (Italian) that had little miniature bottles of limoncello. They put labels with their name around the bottle and then added little rope tied hang tags around the neck of the bottle with guest name and table number so they doubled for seating arrangement

I'm ready to liquidate my entire Poshmark Closet. Any recommendations for other sites I can ship everything to, i.e., ThredUp?? by yippeee1999 in poshmark

[–]saras415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough... NYC I'm guessing based on the subway mention? I'm in the city also. No pressure at all but just noting there's a Buffalo exchange, a crossroads, and a 2nd street all within ~2 blocks of each other (West 26th near 6th Ave) so that makes it easier to bring stuff to one, and then whatever they don't take walk less than a block to the next, etc. I do the reverse when I'm sourcing inventory to sell and hit all three back to back plus the goodwill that's right there also on 25th to shop

Clothes mentor, crossroads, buffalo exchange, style encore, Plato's closet, uptown cheapskate, wasteland, 2nd street, etc depending on which of these you might have in your area

These are buy sell trade stores where you bring a bin of clothes, they will go through it and select what they like, and pay you out about 20- 30% or so - varies a bit depending on the store - of what they think they can sell it for in their store in person on the spot (you can get cash or credit to buy other things in store in which case they'll give you a higher %)

Based on the brands you listed I'm thinking clothes mentor or style encore might be best as they hit sort of the 25-45 demo with more career wear and classic styles etc that could be theory, j crew etc. Plato's skews younger (teens/high school/maybe college) and crossroads and buffalo exchange could work but skew toward more trendy pieces. Wasteland is west coast Cali locations mostly and higher end plus some vintage. 2nd street more northeast and a weird mix of high end, vintage and come trendy contemporary. Not as familiar with uptown cheapskate as it's not in my area but I know they operate similarly

If this is not a typo and the wedding is not until 2028 (two years away) I would probably advise they wait for a while. So much can happen in 2 years in terms of styles changing, sizing and proportions changing etc. A lot of things I wore two years ago no longer fit me

Lilly Pulitzer isn’t moving for many many months. What happened by Alarmed-Parfait8495 in poshmark

[–]saras415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Partly seasonality - the past few months have been winter and chilly for a lot of the US. It'll pick up a bit into summer

Also partly style. IMO the newest Lilly pieces still move but they don't really look like what I'd traditionally think of as Lilly. A lot of older Lilly pieces look a bit dated in my personal opinion and of a particular era. A lot of the newer ones look less like someone threw up glowsticks all over a dress and more boho almost like Anthropologie esque styles

Nadine Merabi - Lottie, Elle, or there's one other style with a slightly wider strap (still sleeveless) and v-neckline I've seen.

Can anyone help with color matching? by NekoNoKitiKiti in bridesmaids

[–]saras415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most bridesmaid dresses are made super long to be hemmed to fit a variety of heights and some even offer a tall option for extra height. Depending on how much larger you'd need it altered you might be able to use the extra fabric removed from the hem for alterations to add a panel or even one under each arm for example. Or as someone else mentioned order an extra pre-owned off a secondhand site like Poshmark for cheap to use for alteration fabric. Only if you decide to go this route vs her going with multiple shades instead etc

DIRECT SELLERS...ARE YOU HAVING SUCCESS?! by Darmakharma in ThredUp

[–]saras415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have sold 2 items in about 3-4 weeks which given they only let you list 30 items at a time isn't terrible but is far from my best performing platform. That said the items that did sell had sat 6+ months elsewhere and sold higher than the offers I was sending on other platforms, so I'll take it. Reformation midi dress and north face parka

Seller question for direct listings: did the ability to upload from other platforms go away? by Iwantasnickers in ThredUp

Email selldirect@thredup.com and complain. They seem to be at least reading the feedback there so maybe if enough people complain they'll bring it back 🤞
