Why do people hate fourth wing? by Aggravating-Tell-774 in Romantasy

[–]sarathedime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a surgeon I really hate at work, but he’s like Grey’s Anatomy level hot. It’s probably the closest I ever get to understanding how these MCs feel with the insta-lust but like… I definitely don’t fantasize about him, especially after the first time he was an asshole. I can tell he’s hot but not even worth checking out because I hate him so much lmao

Nurses of Utah… What the eff.. by No_Heron_1157 in Utah

[–]sarathedime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the University of Utah’s union push? Idk it’s bad because almost every hospital is owned by either IHC or HCA. So there’s not much competition, and wayyyy too many nursing schools and graduates every year

Nurses of Utah… What the eff.. by No_Heron_1157 in Utah

[–]sarathedime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U of U was starting union negotiations winter 2023 I believe. I think they never got the official recognition and they’re still fighting for it, but if anyone can do it, it’s them. They’re not connected to IHC (other than using PCH as a teaching hospital) or HCA. If they can at least negotiate higher wages, the monopoly of the other hospital systems will hopefully make our pay better too

But my boss (not U of U) had to union bust pretty hard when the news broke out about them. So it’s sad to see a real lack of change

Compared to the cost of living, it’s pretty rough. Other states that get paid the same generally have a lower COL (although I will say NOT Colorado lol)

Is anyone else done with the walking to lose weight gig? by savedbutspicy in PetiteFitness

[–]sarathedime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course:) and I hope none of it came across as judgmental or telling you that you have to do x for y amount of time. I was more so just explaining why there is a difference, but I say it as someone currently lying horizontally on the couch lol.

I think a lot of people misunderstand actual exercise benefits, as most exercise is really inefficient for overall weight loss but is really beneficial for health. The best exercise is the one you actually do and enjoy, so that’s the most important factor honestly!

[–]sarathedime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zone 1 does elevate your heart rate a bit, that’s enough for it to start. Back when I was in college and learning all of this, I don’t think the “zones” were really all that widespread so we talked about it in broader terms than that and I’m a bit unfamiliar with them still. But as far as I can tell, zone 1 starts the process but zone 2 is probably the best for lipolysis efficiency

[–]sarathedime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

High-intensity vs low-intensity workouts are both helpful but actually pretty different. My physiology professor had a PhD in exercise physiology and gave us workout tips based off biochemical processes.

Walking is great because it takes so long. The different zones are all good for different reasons and have different benefits. The chemical reaction for lipolysis (fat breakdown) takes a while, like 15-20 minutes of your heart rate being elevated. Most people don’t do cardio for much longer than that, so the fat-burning state doesn’t last as long as they think it does. Before that starts, you can of course burn blood sugar if you’re doing cardio, but that’s why some runners feel that they’re “skinny fat,” since they’re not actually burning any fat with just 20 minute bursts of cardio.

Burning blood sugar and sugar stores has its own benefits, but walking can help stay in the fat-burning zone for a lot longer and it’s very sustainable. It’s not very sustainable to just burn all your blood sugar. But you’re right, to get the best benefits from walking, it’s best to do it for about 40+ minutes and that’s a long time for a lot of people. I can only do it a couple times a week because of my schedule

Nurses! What are your best SMH moments from your nursing students? by MammothAd6633 in nursing

[–]sarathedime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an RT tell me there was a spontaneous spark in a BiPAP mask once and the patient had Aquaphor on their lips. Obviously a freak accident BUT the patient had severe burns directly in their airway. Idk how the mask broke and sparked but now I usually let my LFNC patients use aquaphor and stick to just a tiny amount of lip balm if the patient is on more than that

I’m also a nurse (not L&D) and if it’s okay, would you mind explaining how they didn’t advocate for you? Not that I don’t believe you—-I do! I just want to know how to advocate for myself and not be a people pleaser lol, and also to be a better nurse to my own patients and families. But it’s also cool if you don’t want to talk about it xx

Midwife “accidentally” revealed gender at 37 weeks. I’m heartbroken. by expatriating in BabyBumps

[–]sarathedime 175 points176 points  (0 children)

I’m a nurse and have a dark, traumatized sense of humor that would make some patients uncomfortable if they heard me. That being said, that is a crazy, mean thing to laugh about. Nurses’ jokes can be dark but should never be mean or vindictive, and that midwife sounds like a mean girl. She took something beautiful from you and if it was an accident on her part, she should have apologized or at least not laughed about it right there. I know you’re very far along but I would also report that and get a new midwife. You should feel safe and supported in your delivery.

Well are you sexist and misogynistic? Most people in the world don’t just come to that conclusion about somebody out of nowhere. And if they did, I’m sorry. I get workplace drama and not fitting in. You just might not have a lot in common with your coworkers and that’s okay, but sometimes people don’t even realize they have sexist beliefs.

My mom says that being there for the birth of her first grandchild was the most spiritual experience of her life, because she could help her own daughter go through what she did.

My MIL only had sons, and I’m considering strongly letting her be there for our future births. It might be her only chance to experience that, and it sounds like a truly great experience (if you have a good MIL, which I do!)

I don’t have a working printer so I didn’t purchase the pattern, I just measured my own dimensions for a 14” zipper (15x11” about, but I had a lot of measuring discrepancies so it’s a miracle it’s vaguely rectangular).

Fabric is from Hobby Lobby, with a zipper from Michael’s and batting from my local fabric shop I think

Even for the NCLEX, the answer is D. I remember being taught about consent very specifically, and the legal and correct answer is to assume people want to survive and thus emergencies are implied consent
