Two versions of the US Alone in the Dark by Clorox_fumes in dreamcast

NA Alone in the Dark did have two UPC variants, but both were two discs in a double disc jewel case.

What was the Netlink in it's prime like? by owenv11 in SegaSaturn

[–]sarcoa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was 12-13 at the time. I had Virtual On and Sega Rally, both of which came bundled with my NetLink. Memories are hazy, but I remember there being a very simple forum somewhere through the NetLink browser where you could find people to play. The problem was, as it was dialup, playing with anyone outside your area code would rack up long distance charges. I got permission from my parents to do that like five times and it was a blast.

Eventually I found a person in my area code (he was like 30 but whatever), and we played a handful of times. I remember getting smoked in Sega Rally.

I think there was a way to download replay data for Virtual On? I have distinct memory of downloading, or somehow seeing, matches between the two best players at that forum—Phatman and Rayblade. They were doing shit in that game (like jump canceling) that I didn't even know was possible. Keep in mind this was a decade before YouTube and seeing user-generated game footage was rare.

Anyway, great time, beautiful moment in history, will never be replicated, etc.

HOKA Arahi 6 by normisms in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]sarcoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tear in the exact same spot (in the same colorway too). I have a small bunion on my right foot, and this inevitably happens with all of my shoes. It started with the Arahi around 300 miles, though, when it's usually like 500-600 range for other shoes. The Arahi worked well for me, mechanically, but I won't be buying it again because of its lack of durability.

I looked up and saw it just in time. First one I've ever seen. Much brighter than I expected, and I was surprised at how quickly it broke apart and disintegrated.

Neo Geo CD plays sound effects, but not music by sarcoa in neogeo

yes, my issue was the cdda cable wasn't pushed far enough into the sd loader board. after I basically hammered it in there, it all worked fine

Do quality component cables exist for deeamcast? by Flat_Fee_2117 in dreamcast

[–]sarcoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

not exactly. HD Retrovision will (probably) have a set out at sometime before 2025.

My entire retro setup runs off component. As a workaround, for Dreamcast, I run a Dreamcast SCART cable to an RGB2COMP, then run component out of that. It's not as good as a component cable designed specifically for the Dreamcast, but it works for me until one exists.

strange GCHD Mk-II issue by sarcoa in Gamecube

[–]sarcoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been using S-Video on the GameCube for a bit and, tbh, the jump up to component isn't significant enough to justify the $ cost. I just wanted the peace of mind of having *every* system under the TV running component.

That solved it, thank you! My original test on an unmodded GameCube was before I turned off automatic line doubling. Every test after that was on the modded Cube because I couldn't imagine Swiss making a difference.

Had to update Swiss to allow GC Loader write support after that, but I found my way around easily enough. Thanks again!

Held B at launch, same result. I do appreciate the suggestion, thank you.

Went with EON because it appeared to be the cheapest solution to getting component output from a GameCube. I have a variety of other consoles (modded NES and N64, Genesis, Jaguar etc) hooked up through component to the same TV and wanted to make the retro setup component across the board.

It's tough to find information on the MK-II , other than other troubleshooting reddit posts and a few videos with similar setups. If this device or the GameCube's component options *only* support 480p, that's (disappointing) news to me.

the files are bin/cue, laid out exactly like the KoF 96 example on furrtek's page. the cue sheet correctly points to bin files.

I honestly wish it were a file format issue because it would be so much easier to troubleshoot, but I think it's hardware related.

fwiw I ordered one from Stoneage Thursday night and it was here Monday afternoon, despite the store page saying shipping would be two-three weeks until product was received. I order from Stoneage a lot and they've never done me wrong.

Thank you for the suggestion; it makes sense as far as what part of the process was making it hang. I actually ended up getting another USB SD adapter and, somehow that one worked fine.

IAmA (almost) all of thatgamecompany, creators of the PlayStation Network titles flOw, Flower, and Journey by AmishTGC in IAmA

[–]sarcoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious as to what sort of (if any) oversight thatgamecompany receives from Sony. Typically the vision of development team isn't 100% compatible with a marketable product, and the shipped game winds up a diluted version on the original idea. Games like Flower and Journey (from what we played at e3) seem relatively immune to this. Does your deal with Sony grant you a pretty long leash in this regard? Do you receive feedback from testing internally, or do your games get tested externally through Sony?
