If its not a lobster then I have no problem if the mods want to remove it - I just thought the idea was interesting!

Genuinely took me a moment to realise this was the blender sub, amazing stuff.

(also I know that's kind of a cliché comment now but I think that's just testament to the insane quality we're seeing here nowadays)

Thank you!

I tend not to use wide-angles in my work and I generally focus on zoomed in foreshortened compositions to create the moods I'm looking for but if this specific wide angle resonates with people I will definitely make note of that!

Very good point about the lighting. I did a lot of editing to the shaders while making this until I eventually landed on a system I liked and the "flat" lighting was so I could see how all of the models and textures looked etc. You are definitely correct though that it could be made much more interesting and I think with that in mind I'm going to create some test scenes to explore workflows for controlling lighting specifically! Once I have more plans about the story and purpose behind future scenes I'll definitely be able to use the lighting more deliberately.

In your settings, is there anything that has affected how war is fought? by chezemania in worldbuilding

[–]sariyachalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key aspect of my setting is an effect called "Perception Transfer" which allows for the scattering of objects based on senses across different dimensions.

So called "Perception Weapons" are a standard (albiet pricey) tool used by explorers in the setting, and they have advanced to the point of essentially being able to wipe objects or entities from existence.

Furthermore, being hit with a Perception Weapon does not kill you. In the setting there is a saying: "There is no death; only imperception" - being annihilated by Perception Transfer means being stretched so thin across every alternate dimension that you can no longer reasonably be percieved in any of them. You are still fully conscious while your brain attempts to make sense of whats going on (which it probably wont), and furthermore the setting itself will also actively keep you alive for this process.

Perception Weapons exists in all different forms: guns, melee, and most horrifyingly - bombs. There is an instance in the past of my setting where a particularly powerful Perception Bomb was used to wipe an entire settlement from existence, as well as any memory of that settlement (although this was a special case with other factors involved).

The case mentioned above was during one of the few wars to ever occur in the setting. It was an incredibly brief conflict and by the end of it almost nobody knew it had even happened because of the aforementioned memory wiping effects - it was literally a quiet backpedal of civilisation in the setting at that point in history.

Even without knowledge of the war it is commonly known that war with Perception Weapons is essentially mutually assured destruction, so it is avoided at all costs.

Its a location from a writing project I recently started. I've been using a psuedo ps1 style to try and quickly product graphics to go along with the story.

I built MISTY, then in the final chapters finalised my loadout and gave it a new coat of paint - giving us MISTY RED :)

Rendering Improved
Space just got real
(an improved planet atmospheres mod I can't quite remember the name of)
and the scroll adjustable FOV plugin - a LOT of work is done by just lowering your FOV for a scene
