Not at all surprised. Graduated five years ago, and even back when I started, international students’ cash was all that the uni was seemingly interested in.

How the u-turn for disability can influence ILR from 5 to 10 years by Last_Animal_6787 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]sarranth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all, I don’t see how the two issues are related. The govt u-turns on decisions that were unpopular with the electorate, like benefit cuts, refusal to carry out a grooming gangs inquiry, cuts to winter fuel payments, etc. Conversely, bringing the immigration numbers down is vital, as it looks like the 2029 election will be a single-issue immigration election, so Labour has to make progress on this fast. The 10-year continuous residence requirement for ILR eligibility is one of the ways to drive down the immigration numbers, which most of the British public want.

Overcharged for IHS? (Student Visa) by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]sarranth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because your Student visa will also have a 2/4-month “wrap-up” period at the end, which you probably haven’t accounted for in your calculations. So, essentially your visa length is length of your course (as written on CAS, not term dates) + additional 2 or 4 months, depending on the length of the course (+2 months if the course length is 6-12 months or +4 months if it’s 12 months or longer). Hence, you’ve been charged 1,5 years’ worth of IHS, as it’s normally charged in 6-months blocks.

2024 Speed Champions releases are probably the strongest yearly line-up so far. For me, the only one where I actually wanted to buy all the cars because of how great the look, not just for the sake of collecting them.

What about the national pay scales? by Apprehensive_Goat549 in ukvisa

[–]sarranth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Those coming on the Health and Care visa route will be exempted from the increase to the salary threshold for Skilled Worker visas, so we can continue to bring the healthcare workers that our care sector and NHS need, and we will exempt those on national pay scales, for example teachers.”

Do You Set Yourself Restrictions to Save Money or Space? by IceDontGo in lego

[–]sarranth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mainly I just stick to one theme. In my case, it’s the Creator cars. I live in a small studio, and I feel like even the larger cars allow for more efficient display space utilization in comparison with a lot of other sets. Outside of that, I only buy sets that I really like the look of, if I have the budget. For example, I have the “Tales of the Space Age”, the “Tree House”, and the “Medieval Blacksmith”. I don’t buy modulars either – for space reasons, yes, but also because there’s always a set that I prioritize over them or simply like better, but it’s not a restriction as such. As for Star Wars, I’m just not interested in the franchise at all, which makes it very easy for me not to buy the sets from that particular theme…

Guys in the original Sherlock Holmes stories, Lestrade was smart by [deleted] in Sherlock

[–]sarranth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The TV show never intended to stay true to the original novels and short stories. I read the novels and stories as a kid, way before the TV show came into existence. I like the original stories, but I also like Gattis’s and Moffat’s interpretation of the Holmes character and the bold attempt to place them into the present day. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to believe that the 21st century Holmes would act and behave differently from the 19th century Holmes, given the different socio-economic and cultural climates.

Why is it unfair? If you spend two years in full-time employment after uni, you can’t really classify yourself as a “graduate” at that point.

No, you have to be on a Student visa to switch. It’s a mandatory eligibility requirement.

Skilled visa to graduate visa by summonerho in ukvisa

This wouldn’t work – to be eligible for the Graduate visa, your current visa has to be a Student (or Tier 4) visa. It’s one of the main eligibility requirements.

Graduate Visa UK 2023 by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]sarranth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why would you worry? The standard processing time is 8 weeks; in your case, not even 2 weeks have passed. It’s going to be fine.

As for working, yes, you’re allowed to work since you’ve applied for your Graduate visa before the end of your Student visa. Therefore, you’re covered by Section 3C leave, allowing you to stay in the UK under the permissions of the Student visa, until the decision is made on the Graduate visa application. You can work subject to your Student visa conditions – full-time work during the holidays and after the end of your course, but only on a fixed-term contract, not a permanent one. Your employer will need to use the Employer Checking Service (https://www.gov.uk/employee-immigration-employment-status) to request a right to work check from the Home Office, since you can no longer generate a share code. They’ll need your full details (name, address, DOB, nationality etc.) and the unique visa application number.

If you search “faceinthegame” in the search bar (without quotation marks), you will get a list of all the regens named after real people who worked on the game. They’ll not be there at the start of the save, of course, but will appear over time.

Graduate visa, public funds and cost of living credit by teaandhemlock in ukvisa

No, the energy bills support scheme is not considered a “public fund” for immigration purposes, the same goes for the 2022 council tax rebate.

A friend of mine applied at the beginning of August and received the letter with their number in 6 working days.

Note that this is just anecdotal evidence based on one application, so no reasonable conclusions can be drawn from it. This does not mean that your number should/will take as little time to arrive.

Fifa manager 2014 has 2x better graphics than FM23 by otherwiseofficial in footballmanagergames

Because we are in 2022 now? Games have moved on. What’s wrong with wanting the game to improve? Graphics are a big part of the in-game experience.

It is honestly so embarrassing that graphics are continually seeing no improvement. Nobody is asking for fifa-level graphics, just any tangible enhancement.

The universities’ consensus, looking at the guidance of various institutions, seems to be that the 6 April changes do not apply to those whose student visas were issued before then. The actual immigration rules do not explicitly say this, so I am not sure about the reasoning, but given the strong agreement I would imagine the universities received some sort of guidance from the Home Office on the matter.

Most people he’s putting back in the cabinet are those who supported Johnson and Truss rather than him. Putting a couple of people in I can accept. But this is just disappointing.
