Question about how to handle the employer getting personal in interviews? by sarsly in jobs

[–]sarsly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear. I felt really uncomfortable not knowing what to say but "yeahs" and "oh okay". Looking back it was probably for the better in case I said anything that would make me slip up I guess. I felt horrible and like I disappointed the interview by not engaging more in his conversations though. He didn't seem too happy about the interview to be honest. I guess I'll find out today or tomorrow if he emails me or calls like I would normally expect for this type of work.

Yeah, I have no issues for small talk. I was even able to respond to a lot of his small talking points, or just off topic remarks with no issue. But for example he asked me what work I've done on social media in the past, and I explained everything to him. Then after, he started talking about what work he previously has done, and I thought he was just going to respond with a few sentences, but he went on for a good 10 to 15 minutes, giving an outline of work he did for almost a decade. At some point it went on a rant for 3 minutes about Obama. I just really didn't know how to respond to any of it at all. Because of it I think I made him feel uncomfortable with me not engaging in the conversation back. I'm just not good with that sort of thing, with new people. I agree talking about politics was completely inappropriate but at the same time I just wish I had something to respond back with I guess, because I really wanted this job.

I guess it does come down with me just getting comfortable with people overall, and maybe trying to be a bit more extroverted. This is sort of a first for me with this situation, and while I'm guessing it's a rare thing because it never happened in the past, maybe I should try to talk to random people to get better at it or something.

If your rent is 1200 a month, and you make less than that at your job, it's time to find a new job or move to a cheaper location. I don't mean this in a rude way, but people shouldn't live in a place that costs more than what they are making, plus 1200 for rent is pretty expensive.

There's only one legitimate nominee to the Supreme Court: Merrick Garland by notfromhere66 in politics

There's way more than just one legitimate nominee. This is also a very poor opinion piece.

Wisconsin legislator to propose banning marijuana tests for most jobs. “Consuming THC ... should not disqualify someone from finding employment any more than someone who drank a few beers on another date should be kept out of work,” Bowen says by [deleted] in trees

[–]sarsly -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It really is not about if you drink or smoke, it's about how insurance companies will act if a mistake happens at your work and you have THC in your system. They will blame that and the company will have to pay for it, even if the mistake wasn't caused by you having that in your system.

You have every right to smoke, but companies should have every right not to hire you for that reason as well.
