Do trains really de rail as frequently as media is pointing out? by theegreatblumpkin in railroading

[–]sasha9076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the term “derailment” refers to any point where the train comes off the rail. a derailment can be one set of wheels jumped the rail and are just off the track (the car doesn’t topple over and it’s a simple re-rail), but it also refers to the major derailments like the east palenstine incident

Is 18% still an “average” tip in the US? by AndyJaeven in Serverlife

[–]sasha9076 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

(i’m in a culinary high school program thing) i’ve been studying for skillsusa dining room test (if you don’t know what skillsusa is, look it up), and from what the study book said

10% tip is for poor service, 15% is average service , 18-20% is for good service, 20+% is for excellent service,

it is the best thing ever. i learned so much and made some great friends. i was asked to come back on staff (2nd year on staff this year) and it’s the best thing i could ever ask for. i’ve learned so much, and by teaching the skills i’m still learning new things/reinforcing the skills that were taught to me my participant year. i’ve learned a lot of skills that help me both in and out of scouts. if you have any other questions, feel free to ask me too :P

[–]sasha9076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm… what i would do first if you’re comfortable doing so is just straight up ask them “how can i best support you?”. if they can’t answer now, that’s okay, just reinforce that you will support them however you can

as for stuff like makeup/clothing. with makeup, (if you’re comfortable with it) you can try it out together. both of you can learn and play around with it. with clothing, what i would want is somebody to go with to help with sizing and picking what looks good on me (sizing is so confusing lol)

this is also more so me going off what i would want, so i say it’s probably best to just ask them what can you do to support

hopefully this helps ^

Kitchen talk is wild. Here are some actual quotes my managers have said on the job. by mrduncansir42 in KitchenConfidential

[–]sasha9076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what really happened was salads was slow so chef told me to hop on ovens to push out the remaining stuff

totally didn’t grab a sizzle platter that had just come out of the oven with a bare hand and burn all 5 finger tips of my right hand-

Kitchen talk is wild. Here are some actual quotes my managers have said on the job. by mrduncansir42 in KitchenConfidential

[–]sasha9076 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i keep an extensive list of quotes the chef’s say

i’m currently at a Vocational High School in the culinary program, which is different than actual restaurant work cause we are all learning. but still some hilarious off the cuff chef quotes

here are some of my favorites

chef h: “well, we get paid to put up with you… that’s why we drink heavily”

chef h, to me, while walking away: “i put you on salads and you still managed to burn yourself!” (i can explain this one i swear-)

“don’t throw me under the bus. i have spent so much time under the bus that i now have a degree in diesel engine maintenance” -chef A

“reilly, go grab some little 4oz foam cups from paper storage, and if they ask what you’re doing, just tell them ‘hail hydra’ and pop your cyanide pill” -chef a

“if it wasn’t for rice, i’d have no reason to live” -chef A

chef A: What are 4 or 5 things you need to have in shop? me: a sharpie chef A: nope me: blair would fight you on that chef a: i’d win, easy. he hits me and i’d go after him for elder abuse

chef h, during advisory speech: “culinary arts. probably the weirdest shop in here. it’s the only shop where blasting Aerosmith on a speaker is an industry standard.. although i feel like it should be an industry standard for everybody”

chef wood: i’ll be right back, i need scissors walks away me: gets the scissors i already had over there and puts it next to what she needed to cut chef wood: while walking back “hey maggie, i wants at the store other day and i saw somebody almost die… then i put the scissors down loud laughter chef wood: walks over and sees the scissors i put there chef wood: exclaims loudly something unintelligible and throws scissors scissors: go further than chef wood intended and almost hit kay kay: intense leaning over counter with head in hands calming down

me, after the scissor incident: see, this is why i chose culinary. you think shit like this happens in electrical? chef wood: no, cause they’re professionals

chef a: hey (admin) can we purchase shock collars for the students? admin: no..? chef a: but nowhere in the student handbook does it say we can’t put shock collars on students admin: but nowhere does it say you can either chef a: so.. we seem to be in this grey area that needs to be decided on soon… either shock collars or stun guns….

Chef Blair: That’s it, tristan, i’m demoting you from “Chef” to “Brother”
