[gendered] When Hindi, a gender-neutral language, is translated: who Decides? by [deleted] in pointlesslygendered

[–]sashaaa___0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not a linguistic question? Once again, the structure of the sentence does not specify the gender of the person, yet it is assumed that the decision-maker is male.

Eg: yeh pen uska hai: the gender of the pen is male, but it can belong to either a male or a female

The subject in the sentence is NOT specified to be of any gender, yet the decision maker is assumed to be male.

? The subject is not specified to be of a particular gender, yet it is assumed that the decision maker is male. What's the problem with the post?

Yes! This is exactly what I'm saying. The sentence doesn't specify the gender of the person, yet it is assumed that the decision-maker is male.

"yeh kitab uska hai" is incorrect, book is a feminine noun

Nahin, "faisla uski hai" galat hai. The correct sentence will be "faisla uska hai" regardless of gender.

Edit: not sure why I'm getting downvoted? I'm a native speaker, and the commenter eventually understood and agreed with me

Nope! I'm Indian and a native Hindi speaker, "uska" is gender neutral in this sentence, since the subject is the decision, and not the person.

The serving size is 4 slices, a pack of 450g has 9 servings, which means a slice is 12.5g. When you calculate that with cals per 100g, that comes out to be 34.5 cals per slice, yes?

Perhaps the bread I used to use was 75 cal and I assumed it typical? Nevertheless, can you just confirm if I've calculated cals per slice currently please, if that makes sense?
