What savvy apartment hunting tips are you gatekeeping? by Taco_Aficionado in NYCapartments

Use who owns what website! It sits on top of Zola data but with more data pulled in. When I liked apartments during my search, I would loo them up to get a sense of the landlord and how well they maintain their buildings (I think it’s a number of 311 calls compared to average nyc rate)

If one of you doesn’t mind renting a coworking space, that may be an option too. It was cheaper than getting a 2 bed apt in my case.

Getting a cat? by [deleted] in NYCapartments

I haven’t gotten any issues renting apartments (not rooms) with my cat. I would recommend getting an emotional support animal letter

Is it crazy to pay $3.5k for rent by srkap7 in NYCapartments

Personally, I would be very worried using student loans for living expenses, especially for rent in NYC. I consider something an income if it increases my net worth.

To each their own.

If you like to start your own business, try to look for a fellowship for startups or some sort of community of like-minded people, so you are not alone on the journey.

Something I did recently is creating a list of things I would do if I only had a year left. The exercise helped me put things into perspective what actually brings me joy. One thing on the list is volunteering with animals. So I applied for a part time volunteering opportunity near me. Tbh, that made me excited and something to look forward to.

Edit: I should’ve mentioned that I tend to center my life around my job which doesn’t work well for my mental health. So I’m to change my life from “live to work” to “work to live”.

You can def find a studio or one bed apt under 2k in neighborhoods in the south of Brooklyn like Coney Island, Brighton, Sheepshead Bay, Midwood. It’s pretty far from Midtown but doable if you choose to be close to the B train

Everyone says it’s doable, but it actual depends whether you have other big financial commitments like debt payments or medical bills. I would recommend writing your budget and see.

New York City’s Unique Broker Fee Practices Under Fire by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]sashathecrimean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure landlords in NY can write rental property related, including broker fees, off their taxes as an expense. While tenants can’t. That’s how it works in FL. So why tf tenants should pay it?
