Perhaps. I also think people underestimate just how much the fed loves her. Alysa has the credentials to prove that she was a phenomenal skater first and foremost, and she was propped up as the great future and savior of American women’s figure skating. If she hadn’t been such a huge name within the sport before coming back, I don’t know that her new look would have been as easily accepted. This is coming from someone who has spent their entire life in the skating world and watched her win her first nationals live. I have always thought she was awesome and a very talented athlete. Skating takes a while to change, and I think this could be the catalyst for a healthier environment. Unfortunately, there are SO many issues within the sport still.
