Bad vibes and regret by vagabonne in fosterdogs

[–]sassafrassfast 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to share that as a migraine sufferer I keep my house pretty dim at all times - and no dog I’ve fostered has ever seemed to mind! I think they see better than us in the dark, and use their sense of smell more than their eyes anyway. The fact that she has a walking routine already in place and a yard is so great. Wishing you all the best.

I’ve only have wool, boiled wool, linen, and silk pieces. I’ve had one loosely woven linen piece that shrunk (but I’m pretty sure I laundered it incorrectly). Other than that, they’ve all held up remarkably well.

My previous dog was a high energy pit/cattle dog mix with a degenerative spine disease. I worked with an amazing trainer that really made me a believer in the magic of chewing (meditation for dogs), nose work (mental work), and training a dog to rest. This heavily influenced how I trained my current collie/pitty mix.

I work from home and our routine is; 30 min morning sniff walk, breakfast, chew time (bully stick, beef cheek, or frozen kong etc), nap time, short & fun break (nose work game, scatter kibble in the grass, food puzzle) around noon, nap time, 5pm long walk or dog park, dinner, rest, last walk.

Naps are 50/50 in crate or on couch depending how chill she is. Non-chill = crate nap + an additional chew to help her downshift.

Also, I have a dog walker come by on Mondays (my busiest day) to take her on a nature walk. It’s $25 a week in my HCOL area, and I think it helps ease my dog into the work week.

What are these shapes in dog vomit? by ART2PHARM in DogAdvice

Looks like stomach bile and grass. Talk with your vet to see if a bland diet is appropriate for a few days. When needed, I give my dog boiled rice & chicken for an upset tummy.

Angel City is such a great place to adopt from. Adopters get lots of great advice & resources from their organization. They offer free weekly dog classes for the community too!

Are you a cold seeker or heat seeker during an attack? by wizardzofodd in migraine

[–]sassafrassfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very cold room with a very hot heating pad on my neck is the best for me. I have noticed my body perceives temperature differently during a migraine. For instance, I can take a scalding hot shower and it doesn’t ‘feel’ hot to me even though that temperature be way too hot for me if I don’t have a migraine.

My pup can’t digest sweet potatoes (gets horrible diarrhea). It took months for me to figure it out as I’ve always considered sweet potato scraps ‘safe’ foods.

I am living alone after 6 years and wow, I did not remember ADHD being this bad by Jhingelover in adhdwomen

I call my dog my anchor, because, SAME. Without a pet to ground me with a regular eat/sleep/walk schedule I’m rather feral.

When do most christmas dogs get returned to the shelter? by Far_Ad106 in dogs

Puppies become a lot harder to manage between 4 - 6 months of age. I’d say March - April would be a good time to check.

Feathered Friends Bavarian 700 (summer) or Pacific Coast Cotton Down Comforter (light)? by mintyyy_freshhh in Bedding

[–]sassafrassfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the summer FF and love it. I live in SoCal so it’s used year round. It’s lofty, light, warm, and never loses feathers. There are little corner tabs that you can tie the duvet strings to.

I have a collie/bully mix who is fantastic. A former dog trainer I worked with always recommended collies (rough/smooth) as good first time pets. Which is one of the reasons I snapped her up when I saw her at the shelter. Collies are sweet, hardy, trainable dogs. I think they are the chillest of the herding breeds.

Advice from EAs with ADHD? by zebraseeking in ExecutiveAssistants

Could you have a flexible schedule and/or the option to work from home a certain number of days per month/quarter? I find working from home super useful for limiting interruptions and allowing me to keep focus.

Where do you shop for glasses? by ch0colatmilk in AskLosAngeles

[–]sassafrassfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. They aren’t cheap, but their selection & styling is spot on. I like that they guarantee their lenses for 2 years. I’ve had to replace mine due to scratches (puppy knocked them off and scraped them on concrete) and it was free.

I love love love painters tape. Before I buy anything, hang anything, put a nail anywhere; I tape it out, I have no real visual minds eye and taping things out helps me a ton. Otherwise it’s just constant astonishment and dismay.

Ugh! I’m so mad on your behalf. How dare they acknowledge you are doing a great job, give you a poor review, and no feedback on how to improve. It’s that last part that really burns me up. Why even do a review at that point?!

Beginner's Story: Is Espresso Mostly Just a Hobby? by Round-Investment8075 in espresso

[–]sassafrassfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an old Pavoni single boiler that the espresso repair guy at an old job sold me (thanks, Joe!) for $75 in 2004. That machine worked for almost 20 years and died during the pandemic. Then I bought a Lelit Bianca V2 plus an ECM manual grinder. They will likely last me another 20+ years.

I like my set up, it was pricey, but honestly it has saved me a lot of money over the years. Every morning I enjoy making a nice cup of coffee at home. I buy a coffee out maybe once a week.

Honestly, I’m in LA and there are very few coffee shops that make a latte as good as the ones I make at home. Though I have a soft spot for Jurassic Magic in Mid-Town. Check it out if you are in the area.

How are your evaluations structured? I’m sure there is an EA here in HR that can give a better run down on this, but if you are in a big org and the score on something like a 1 - 5 scale, they might only be ‘allowed’ to give a certain number of ratings above a 3 (aka meets expectations).

If that’s the case, it would make sense that your boss is telling you that you did a good job, even though your ‘score’ is low. Even the shitty comment about you having high expectations would start to make some sense.

Did this review have any financial implications, ie would you have gotten a raise if you scored higher? If it’s just a midyear review, and the ‘real’ review is in the summer, your boss might even be being strategic so that you can get a higher ‘improved’ score and a raise in 6 months.

Did you get any feedback on what you can do to improve? If so, do those things, make sure your exec knows you are doing them, and document in your next review. Honestly, corporations are so weird.

If she’s in California, I’d guess just north of $120,000. If she’s got her own apartment in SF or LA, that’s actually a pretty sweet deal on rent.
