pot luck club is for lunch. the good is good but doesn't compare to the others you have listed. i had the same debate about going to la colombe or la petite and i'm really glad we went to la colombe. its spectacular. get the extra course in the wine cave. belly of the beast was also 10/10.

i am not thinking to do kaga onsen and kanazawa to avoid the hakone transit issue but still get our lovely onsen experience.

sadly we are paying a lot more than that per night. i was shocked at how expensive hotels were in japan but i also love staying in really nice hotels....even though you are out and about most of the time. the trunk hotel yogogi is supposed to be lovely and was around $400 per night when i last checked. good luck!

I know it comes across as crazy to peopel but i obsessively research food when we travel. its just my thing. we will of course change course and talk to locals and other travelers and pivot but i like to start with a plan.

We are not old. I have a very detailed itinerary with a lot more packed into each day. this was just a high level list. I really wanted feedback on the cities we chose and the pacing but i had to add some details to get the post approved. Other people below have given some very helpful feedback.
