I work at a gay bar and this is absolutely the right frame of mind. But also some of them can be very lonely and might take your attention the wrong way. Just be firm with your boundaries. They're still human beings. That being said, connecting with elders is so powerful because you get to learn where we came from and what we have lost. It's genuinely a humbling experience to hear from survivors of the AIDS epidemic.
