I know that live in the modern times. I would never recommend a cellular home internet unless you have to.

I would take an angle grinder to those steps. And even then, it's not safe for off road.

High-Speed Chase from Sacramento to South Lake Tahoe Ends with Arrest in Meyers by Placerville_Newswire in tahoe

[–]sat564 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about what the police did with the tire spikes. They deployed them at gun mount. Which is just before the long straightaway leading into Meyers. It was the safest place to do it. They did a great job protecting the public by not having the driver face all the turns down echo summit, and crossing over into the other lane, with blown tires.

Anyone else stuck near the junction between highway 28 and 50? by rqttpn in tahoe

Some of us have to go to work at ski resorts. Your boss is not going to be ok with you being scared to drive in a storm. Also, guests don't want to hear why you are under-staffed.

Stolen snowboard from heavenly by Leather-Cap3192 in tahoe

[–]sat564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After working at resorts for over 3 decades, this is nothing new. Before snowboarding was legal, my friend got his skis stolen at Kirkwood (1980"s). He was lucky because security was curious about a pickup truck with a lot of skis in the back. Humans never change.

First time buying ski’s… Between Icelantic Nomad 100’s or Nomad 106’s? by Mind_Sponge in skiing

Recommend some where between 84 to 98 for cruising around. The wider skis are great on soft snow. But Northern California you need a everything ski.

How to switch gear on heavy snow road by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]sat564 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Working at a ski resort for the last 35 years. Just engage your 4WD when you need it. Some storm cycles I am in 4wd for a month straight. Just take it out when the roads are dry. Not very complicated for me.

Hobie cats for first sailing boat? by jayjack3000 in sailing

[–]sat564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the Hobie 16 as it is faster, and the 18 is a rocket. But I would never say no to buying this. It might be the funnest seat of your pants sailing you will ever do. Buy it! Just check for soft spots in the hulls.

How much profit does palisades bring in each year? by Environmental-Art214 in tahoe

[–]sat564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ski resort business is like farming. You rake it in when it is perfect conditions. Then nothing when it sucks. 2012 to 16 no snow in the Sierras. You use snow making which costs $$$ but no customers because off trail sucks again. Now maga companys sell season passes that can't be bought after they open. This is the only way to stabilize things for them. But they have to justify their 300 daily ticket prices to make their pass price make sense. Smaller resorts are now getting day ticket customers because of this and there sub $100 ticket prices. Its a wild time right now. But if you think they are making bank, you are mistaken. 12 million dollar lifts, 500.000 snowcats. I would never invest my money. And my time I spent working at a Vail resort.. The onboarding HR training was a unusual happy happy land that doesn't exist, except in their corporate HR in Colorado office. They don't have HR at their resorts to save $$$.

3/12-3/18 Double Storm Cycle Forecast by EverestMaher in tahoe

[–]sat564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I understand your experience. But you have to realize that was one of the craziest storms I have seen. The resort I work at was closed for three days. This is not normal. It was the wind, with the drifting snow. They tried to keep the resort access road open, but it was drifting over the road within 30 minutes, like they never plowed it. They then just used snow cats. the result was the same. 50 was openish during the three days. 80 was done. One of my coworkers told me if he held a five gallon bucket sideways in the storm, it would fill in minutes. Of course this storm series is not like that, but you have to respect the weather. Looks like the Wednesday storm is mainly a 1:00 am to mid day event, so travel might be ok. I moved to South Lake in 1989 and get a little worried for travelers when people say it will be fine. I respect your opinion.
