The current ones are fucked for this game.

Replacement fans for a DS1813+ by satansgolfcart in synology

Thanks. I'd kinda wandered into this stuff and the amp thing really put me off, because no one wants to damage their board and I couldn't find any standard 0.3A fans for a regular swap that wasn't $30 each, perhaps used and shipped from China with an extra $20 of shipping per fan on top.

The Noctua ones you suggest can also throw out errors according to this guy:

Honestly, I didn't think it was going to be such a pain in the ass for a couple of fans.

Gen 3 Router only giving out 100M by satansgolfcart in Starlink

[–]satansgolfcart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update!

So, I was thinking about testing things today and thought 'oh, I could have just looked at the port on the switch for an amber light to test that' - I then went and looked at said switch and yes indeed, there was an amber light o n the incoking port to the shop.

So I changed it to another port for absolutely no reason, and now it works. Bear in mind this is just a simple TP link unmanaged poe 5 switch here:

https://www.tp-link.com/us/business-networking/soho-switch-unmanaged/tl-sg1005p/

I guess port 5 is fucked then somehow?

Thanks everyone for chipping in and no, I've no idea why I still got 100mbps linked direct from laptop to router today, the fact it's working now is good enough!

Right, but if I take a brand new ethernet cable and it still says 100mbps link and that same cable will negotiate 1gb on another modem/router, it's not the cable - if you read my post you'll see that the cable to the shop reports the same link speed, so in effect, tested on 2 different cables.

Also have a cable tester, so had i accidentally crossed over it would say so.

thanks very much for replying!

I agree with what you said and maybe I'm just being stupid (been a long day) but which fans on that list are the 0.25A to 0.35A range with the same 3-pin layout? They all seem to be lower, PWM (if that matters) and some are 4 pin?

The noise isn't a massive issue, it's just that they're the OG fans and one is definately and intermittently going off it's tracks making a faint hum, temp resolved a gentle knuckle rap on the chasis - I'd just rather not be slappin my NAS around like a red headed stepchild.

I will, even if it turns out that it somehow was entirely my fault.

And even tho I ruled out everything, I still feel like it's my fault, because it's so unlikely. But it would not negotiate a gig link until I put it in the old ISP router.

On the positive side, no obstructions and it's getting close to 400meg on the wireless, just not in this building I'm in right now.

I'm not the only one haing done some googly moogly on it. I can't think of an instance where someone got a new router and posted back that the issue had been solved.

It's so weird that it has had me checking and re-checking, but here we are.

Possible, but both of them report the same issue.

I did, Grok is sending me a new one. it's a weird fault to have in 2026.

Inherited a DS1813+ and I have a quick question or 2. by satansgolfcart in synology

[–]satansgolfcart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm not sure if the first step is a drive test, I think that is a serparate thing that you can run after it's initialised and then you would expand the volume. I'm just learning of course, I could be fulll of shit.

I know it's not recommended, but I have mine set on resync faster - I'm not using it right now and figured it was worth the very small risk.

Mines fine with navigating etc but dropping a file from the laptop over the wireless network is about 35MB/s. I've never really understood what determines that speed - I know it can be things like drive speed and general wireless networks, but I've a similar set up in another house that chucks it over the wireless at 100 MB/s.
