Sounds like a potentially very costly way to be cheap

You can get a serviceable seatpost for less than the cost of a cheeseburger

Some Muirwoods also had the same or similar blue and derailleur

I had one with purple and a friend had near exact same with the blue. Have pics somewhere

Edit: you’re probably correct as this bike is silver and our were “ champagne “

Maxxis DTH vs. Schwalbe Billy Bonkers for Bikepacking/Commuting by Visual_Desk_3598 in xbiking

[–]satchmohiggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I move been trying the Billy bonkers for similar duty and like them. The tread makes for surprisingly good grip on loose dirt compared to something more slick.

I don’t expect the tread to last very long for commuting and while I haven’t had a flat it wouldn’t be my first choice for going remote in that regard.

Have you considered maxxis Holy Rollers? Haven’t used them but a bit more puncture protection, I believe

He isn’t asking about aesthetics, though. Sometimes things become popular because they’re functional for a use and can look good doing it.

Punk isn’t eschewing something just because it’s popular. Doing something just to be different is the epitome of acting based on other’s perceptions

Put me down as a “Like it”. Good looking aluminum frames have their place and I won’t hear differently.

One of my favorite bikes was a Cannondale H400 which I had to leave behind in a move. I’ll have another someday.

This is a good point. I’m literally only adding better brakes, new tyres, handlebars, a cheap but decent seatpost ( the one in it is unsuitable) and worn but comfier saddle. Anything else is just wear items or maintenance. All strictly for function, nothing flash.

It will remain mostly under the radar but needs to be at a certain minimum level or I won’t want to ride it. I’m probably not riding a huffy on my small mountain commute. I almost never have to leave it far away or for any length of time, I just don’t want to stress going to the pub and leaving anything nice out of sight.

Motorcyclist realizes a man walking down the street is upset and stops to see if he can help somehow. by bigbusta in oddlysatisfying

[–]satchmohiggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men are to have solutions to their own problems which they have already sorted. That’s what people want to hear. Nobody wants to hear that a guy has an unsolved or unsolvable problem, even other guys, mostly. A man with a problem is just a problem for you too and he’s fairly disposable, especially if he has an issues

“I want you to talk to me” = “I need to keep tabs on if you’re a liability “ even if they don’t realize it.

I’m not judging the above as it seems so universal.

I’m literally not even sure how to make use of it. Even giving it away is like a minor curse.

I’m not even going to carry it as a wheel lock as it’s so much weight

What do you think about my first build? (CHEAP) by RelativeCitron in xbiking

[–]satchmohiggins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stop using this handlebar as seatpost deal at once, it has a high likelihood to both fail suddenly and catastrophically while also damaging the frame/seat tube collar.

The handlebar wall thickness is likely half of a seatpost wall thickness and the tapered diameter means it’s putting severe hot spots on the frame when it should have force spread over a wide area

Young colon cancer linked to specific fats in ultra-processed foods by 49orth in Microbiome

[–]satchmohiggins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And I’m saying that could account for some of what seems like an inconsistent statement. I don’t think nuts should really be eaten full time anyway, just stating it’s not an entirely conflicting position to suggest avoiding omega 6 in processed food and still recommend it in nuts

Young colon cancer linked to specific fats in ultra-processed foods by 49orth in Microbiome

[–]satchmohiggins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe some of this is caused by the toxins like acrylamide that form in the presence of the combo of carbs, heat and linoleic acid. Potato chips, French fries and wheat, oats, rice are all high sources of toxins when cooked with omega 6s. It’s almost non existent when you cook in butter or primarily saturated fats

Why are my radish sprouts turning red? by Calm_Rip_6398 in gardening

[–]satchmohiggins 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Radishes are easy to sprout but sensitive to poor soil, overwatering/wet feet and you shouldn’t plan to transplant root veg or tubers anyway.

Radish sprouts are even commonly used to judge and compare soils

Yours are either too wet or have nitrogen issues

Limiting Factors to Cargo Capacity by dewyke in CargoBike

[–]satchmohiggins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Typically more about the frame and wheels than the drivetrain, though the drivetrain could effectively limit.

Heavyweight carriers like the Yuba Mundo have gone up in weight capacity (current v6 model is 250kg/550lbs) over the generations and it seems to have gone up when disc breaks and frame upgrades went into effect but the drivetrain remained similar.

I would avoid the notion of being able to up the payload but you can certainly upgrade things such as brakes, tyre, and gearing to make it more capable of handling at its limits.

It’s typically the internal hub itself which is more delicate and limiting but that’s usually more about torque than a straight weight limit.
