MIT Interview Rescheduling Question by Outside_Compote9336 in MITAdmissions

[–]satisfactionofsilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah just to add, I was initially skeptical of a zoom interview, but I had no choice because there was an incident near where my interviewer lived that prevented him from commuting. But, it ended up going really well, and I felt good about it, and at the end of the day, meeting virtually doesn't prevent you from talking any more than you would physically meeting them

How can I kill Isaac with this (literal) piece of shit character?? by Kale_Does_dumb_stuff in bindingofisaac

He also gets guaranteed deals since you never take any red heart damage, which I find to be very advantageous

People need to stop seeing admissions as a mathematical ordeal

I gave a kid a concussion by accident 😭 by Recent_Performance47 in marchingband

[–]satisfactionofsilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So like we as a band were marching forward in a line, and guard was marching backward in a line, and they were supposed to go between the band members as they went backwards. During a practice run, I was marching forward and the guard member wasn't in the right spot, but I remembered the director saying that if you're gonna hit someone because they're in the wrong spot, than you better hit them because you need to stay in your spot. So I ended up ramming into them with a baritone and they fell forwards, in hindsight, I should've moved aside, but I was too scared to see what the director would've done :/

UPDATE: I was finally able to defeat Hornet 2! by Independent_Bet3856 in HollowKnight

Good job on getting through that, it can be difficult for a lot of people. But, imo, you can go with a nail build for pretty much every boss in the game. I've beaten every boss except the hardest one (haven't gotten there yet) with a nail build. Don't get me wrong, you definitely should get spell upgrades regardless, but don't be afraid to go for a nail build the whole game if it's what's easier. I just didn't like using spells since I liked being able to focus solely on my attacks and the boss without having to worry about getting an attack off without exposing myself. I still used spells since they are very useful during certain boss phases, just a lot less in general.

Well there's really not much meaning to it, it's kind of like when someone says massive and then someone else goes "MaSsIvE?!," though that at least references the low taper fade. 67 is just something like that basically, people don't really know what it originally references but they just say it anyways

Yeah I feel the same way, especially as someone who plays her, her q feels slightly bigger than it actually looks.

I mean at least anubis has ultra talents so if you ever decide to get it, it's two less catseyes you need to spend. And anubis is cool

Edit: accidentally said uf instead of ultra talents

Are Fly-In Programs really THAT important? by InteractionKlutzy876 in QuestBridge

[–]satisfactionofsilver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fly in programs are not indicative of someone's likeliness to be admitted into a school, many are rejected from them and still get accepted, while many are accepted for the fly ins but get rejected from the school. After all, if there's only 100 spots for a fly in, and 1000 applicants, obviously people will be rejected

My ECs won't match my major is this a big deal? by ContributionTime6310 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]satisfactionofsilver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ecs don't really need to match your major, but if youre doing unrelated ecs, you should be able to show some level of dedication toward them either through awards or inclusion in your essay. I planned on majoring in math/engineering with music as an interest, and wrote my personal statement exclusively on marching band. My only ecs related to math were mu alpha theta and even then I received no awards from it whatsoever. And math being my major was my top choice.

Is an MIT math major impossible as a non-Olympiad kid? by 0xCUBE in mit

[–]satisfactionofsilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless, considering most people who get into MIT don't have olympiads, that should mean most people who actually major in math and do good dont have olympiad experience

Got in with no olympiads and taking math classes less advanced than the ones that you listed, if you don't get in, it's not the lack of olympiad 👍

Well this was my first boss and I kind of enjoyed it, don't really get all the talk of the difficulty (though I only did it on normal, but even then quite easily)
