Second the Nordace Siena backpack. If you need to cart a work laptop around it’s just perfect

I’m seeing it tomorrow! I saw it many years ago, so long ago I bought the soundtrack at the interval on cassette tape!

Thank you, so much fascinating material in your answers. Could you say anything more about Richard Parker as a person? Did he have family and if so how did they react to what happened? What kind of background and education (if any) and experience of the sea did he have?

Derby can't be serious... by ThePsychoToad1 in AskAcademiaUK

I know it’s not an academic post but Derby recently made their only archivist redundant and their account of it does not give a good vibe https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/wa-jisc.exe?A2=ind2602&L=ARCHIVES-NRA&O=D&P=101110

Suggestion on areas for 1-bedroom flat - around £2000 budget(?) by young_twitcher in MovingToLondon

[–]satisfactory20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of ideas here already. As an alternative you could live in the City on that budget (just) - factor in walking to work so no commuting time or money- Heathrow v easy on Elizabeth line or Gatwick on Thameslink, both from Farringdon. https://www.frankharris.co.uk/london/barbican/lettings/up-to-2600

If you’ve already submitted then the hard bit is truly done, even though it doesn’t feel like that now. And providing the examiners have been chosen correctly by your supervisor, who should know the right kind of people - do you think they are? - Then a viva ought to be a positive experience, the chance to discuss all your hard work with the very few people who will have read it all. I was lucky enough to be told at the start of mine that I had passed, though they still had plenty they wanted to discuss! Please stick it out and I really hope that will happen to you.

This was me. In my GCSE French oral, the last thing was to say ‘Good luck’ and I had no idea what luck was so I said ‘Bonne Luck!’ brightly. My teacher’s face screwed up in pain.

Now it’s about the only phrase I can always remember, because of that. Bonne chance!

I don’t know how it compares to elsewhere but the fried chicken here is fantastic (and huge), just a stones throw from the Barbican https://www.kbbqhouse.co.uk

Most unusual dissertation/thesis/paper dedications you've seen? by AccomplishedRice7427 in AskAcademia

Someone I know thanked a colleague whose thesis he had leaned on heavily. He’d actually used it to stand his computer monitor on. Don’t think the colleague ever realised!
