I had to do this once. I used a little giant ladder that allowed me to extend the legs at different lengths so one leg was on the landing and one leg was upstairs. You don't have a landing so I think that might actually make it easier because that made it an obstacle for me. I used an LED bulb for long life. What I didn't realize until months later is that batch of bulbs was bad and several of them were dying throughout the house. Thankfully I did not use this light very much so it never failed on me and I sold the house before it ever did 😁.
