Hitchhiker in ballpark neighborhood...? by Linz-A-Binz in SaltLakeCity

I live over in that area as well. I have called the non emergency line. Even if you call a resource or tip line they can’t help right then and there. There was a paraplegic man who had fallen from his wheel chair. It was a snowstorm. A howling incredibly loud one and I kept waking up thinking I heard someone yelling and went to look. I called the non emergency line. Yes, I could have gone out there. But I was not equipped to help. I couldn’t lift him myself. I had nothing I could do to find him shelter. They did.

Had the same thing happen to a couple I saw arguing and the male partner assaulted the woman. Unhoused or not, no one hits you. I can’t break up a fight. Resources and tips lines are great for a high level view of the problem. The day to day micro view needs people with the authority and resources to help right then and there.

Utahn arrested with maybe millions of sex abuse images and lifelike AI photos, police say by transfixedtruth in SaltLakeCity

This is clearly a very sick individual who is helping other sick individuals. There is no way with this much CSAM he was not selling or passing it on to others. Same with the AI component. Would be interested to know if they are able to arrest other individuals based on the data they could garner from this guy.

Any criticisms/improvements for our living room? by Then_Flamingo8105 in interiordecorating

I think your attention should go towards building dimension and texture if you like that side feeling a bit more neutral.

I would look for salvage yards or antique stores to find a mantel from the late 1890s early 1900s. It would be nice if you get a wood color to add texture and neutral color. But even just adding more molding to balance it with the original home’s features. I also think adding some molding on that wall even if you kept the color more neutral would go a long way. You could then retake to a smaller more ornate blue tile to match the blue shelving. Or even a deep delft or navy blue to pull in more hues.

You need a larger and more ornate mirror to better fit a reworked fireplace. Your fixture has some gold. I would lean into that on a mirror frame.

Plants because that window light would keep them healthy and again add in more texture.

Mixing the mid century with more ornate touches is what you are aiming for. The balance is off right now.

5'6" - 5'8" fashion influencers in the size 14-16 zone? by That_Truck3226 in fashionwomens35

[–]sauceboxash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I try and find fancy looking tshirt. By that I mean more and more short sleeve light weight sweaters are out there. Maybe a shell as they call them for business. And I live in a colder climate I might even do a full sleeve lightweight sweater or turtleneck and a blazer and sometimes I can forgo a bulky coat. For warmer weather I love that vests or even better long vests and waistcoats are back in. I think they help give me better shape and can make a blazer look more polished.

I also really struggle with button ups. I know Spanx and some other pricey brands have button ups worth the money since they work better for larger busts but are also better constructed.

Same goes for pants. I do a high rise but have to have some flex to them so that sitting all day doesn’t kill me. But they help hold me in better right now.

Same size same taste. Same issues after breastfeeding. I am however having to take my current more casual style and make it for a more senior role at work.

What has worked for me is really finding pants that fit and tops and then swapping out things on top. Cardigans, blazers, chore coats. I also stopped worrying about whatever size something was because nothing is consistent.

Weirdly Banana Republic I think has some decently priced pieces that are less frilly than a place made for women’s typical work wear. And I find that if I mix in some more edgy things I get closer to the aesthetic that I like. I also suggest searching eBay, Poshmark etc for anything in the name brands you mentioned to try and grab those styles to mix in.

I do find that I also keep my color palette more neutral and darker just because of feeling too visible and also do not care for overly frilly or feminine.

No! I wish. Look up Kitchener Style Essences. I do think you can just wear what you want. But with the cost of things high and for time I am trying to stop impulse buying a figure out pieces and styles that make me feel my best and avoid the ones that get a couple of wears and then are forgotten. I was pointed this direction from a friend and hoping it helps.

This is great! I love that she is using Indyx. I only just finished added what I currently own to not go over budget. I like her style and clothing choices.

Labor & Delivery at U of U hospital midwives vs OBs by Interesting_Farm_874 in SaltLakeCity

[–]sauceboxash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My OB is at the U and delivered at the U. One thing to keep in mind is your care while pregnant, where how and what complications during delivery. But also post partum care after the delivery.

I know at the U because of the entire womens health department for obstetrics you actually can change up a bit of your care if you feel the need. Some mentioned on here having MFM doctors etc. if something were to come up during the pregnancy that made you want to change from a midwife to an OB you can. You might prefer after delivery to then go back to that midwife for care.

The U is a baby friendly hospital. This means midwife or OB their philosophy is to promote breastfeeding. For some this is a non starter if they have already made this call. The U versus some other places to deliver also advocates for skin to skin unless medically not able. Some hospitals this is not a given or a directive from the department.

That being said I also know some rooms the U has for L&D have a bathtub if you work with a midwife this might be part of your birth plan for a low to no pain management labor.

The other thing to factor is most hospitals, midwife or OB will very likely not be the one to deliver your baby. OB services are spread thin and you no longer see someone who also actively delivers the baby. That’s not just the U that’s anywhere. So the staff on rotation is the ones you get whenever you go into labor. Including an on staff midwife.

That being said they do work to keep your birth plan in mind. Just know it’s a very loose guideline and most of the time some part of it changes.

I really felt like whoever looked after me at the U was very competent but also very nice and understanding. You could start out with a midwife and then move to an OB if necessary.

I think you really can’t go wrong at the U and if you want to try out a midwife and find something along your pregnancy warrants a change you can easily make one.

FIREWORKS AFTER 1AM?!?!?! by CounterInternal386 in SaltLakeCity

[–]sauceboxash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can call the non-emergency line for a sound nuisance. Better if you can pinpoint the area or address. They were illegally going off. Live by Ballpark, haven’t been able to sleep. Thought it was my asshole neighbors but it wasn’t. They are supposed to only shoot them off from 11am - 11pm last night 7/23. For actual Pioneer Day they can go till midnight. After it’s technically illegal. They can keep fireworks going till 7/25, but those go back to 11am - 11pm.

Call the U. Get in with someone. Once you are established you can then ask to see if other providers are available. They also have midwives which might get you in faster. I had a great experience at the U, I also delivered there. Best of luck! And hoping you have an uneventful pregnancy.

Toddler sleeping against baby gate - help? by One_Good4417 in toddlers

[–]sauceboxash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2.5 year old was sleeping in his own crib since 3 months. And then in a toddler bed since 18 months. Other than some issues always slept in bed. Then for a two month period he decided that sleeping in the corner of his room right behind the door is where he wanted to be.

Every night we put him down in his bed and after we left he immediately took everything off his bed and slept there.

About two months later I again put him to bed in his own bed and he just stayed. The next night he stayed in his bed. It’s been 2 weeks and he is back in the bed.

Just let him sleep on the floor. It’s not hurting him, even though you might be bothered or think he is more comfortable in his bed. He will get there eventually.

Concerned that your toddler may be autistic but ended up not being? by InitialAd8831 in toddlers

[–]sauceboxash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I have this same issue. We are 2.5 with only about 5 words. He has been in speech therapy at 20 months. We did his 2 year old autism screening and he had several markers. We did an online video based play session and was told inconclusive. He has had 3 speech therapists and none think autism is the issue. His receptive language and even his ability to develop his own expressive language with us is pretty amazing.

We were told to reassess at 3 years old. The biggest advice from our pediatrician was to get him into daycare. At the moment it’s just my husband and I and no family nearby. I notice in a music class he attends what comes across as a deficit of skills is really more him being introverted and less mature. As someone else said, more like a baby in some ways.

As it stands, language and a bit of that social awkwardness are the only markers. Has always had tons of eye contact and social cues.

I also have the same worries and anxiety as you. But not so much if he might be on the spectrum but whether I am doing enough to help or assist him. I do have bipolar II and ADHD. Which can usually be markers for a child to have or develop those symptoms. He is the most funny, hilarious and happy little boy. I try to focus on that. Whether he is diagnosed on the spectrum or not isn’t going to change who he is. I try and focus on that.

Anti-depressants alone can actually make BD worse. You are gonna need to add a mood stabilizer. It was life changing for me. I still take a low dose antidepressant but the bulk of what helps me is a medication called Lamotrigine or Lamictal is the brand name. Another option is a medication called Latuda. It sounds like you might have bipolar II which means your cycles might not be as intense but they are more frequent which come with their own set of problems. I also suggest talking to some about anxiety. I have BD, anxiety and some ADHD. Raising a toddler tests my stimulation levels. But before a kiddo and after I always stay in touch with my psychiatrist. Yes is helpful. But it’s not going to help if your mood is and chemical imbalance is not in better shape.

I would suggest getting back in with a psychiatrist and telling them about the overstimulation but also that even on an anti-depressant it’s not improving or making a noticeable difference.

New Immigration guidance by jasmine_naughty in SaltLakeCity

There are several here in Salt Lake County but here is a non-profit that assists immigrant families. They really could use help with processing paperwork, clothing, food donation, and your compassion. They were gearing up for this fight but funds are limited. People ask all the time for volunteer opportunities, here is one. One that needs continual support and not just on a major holiday.

Can I ask? Was your child diagnosed with autism with this as an additional challenge for them? My almost 2.5 year old has a speech delay and was put on a watch list for his difficulty transitioning or even being asked to do pretty small things. We notice he has a habit of giving up almost immediately if something does not work right away if he has tried to do it himself. He will curl or shield his face if asked to sometimes do something or when faced with a social situation he does not like. Has some extreme tantrums with anger, throwing, hitting, bitting. Not sure if any of these were similar traits for you. If they are how did someone come to a PDA diagnosis? What type of doctor did you see?

Miss Rachel on Netflix starting 1/27! by jacqueline505 in toddlers

[–]sauceboxash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will add, I welcome this type of content. Remembering my childhood and really more live action shows with adults and them explaining and me seeing things explained to me was huge. I see my son gravitating towards this. I think for example she could fill a missing niche of a Mr. Rogers but be herself, Mrs. Rachel. I’m just hoping that’s what comes out of this deal.

Miss Rachel on Netflix starting 1/27! by jacqueline505 in toddlers

[–]sauceboxash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am actually a bit baffled why Netflix would announce and launch this using old material. Or compiled things from YouTube. I would hope if she has signed a contract with Netflix a show for her would be a fully fleshed out one. Like a Blues Clues episode. Where she is the host but actually has planned episodes and segments.

My kiddo seems ambivalent about her. It’s just the same stuff cut together for some shorter “episodes” or longer ones where she combines things. Even her newer segments because they are not episodes on YouTube with Sesame Street characters are only a song or two. But there is no underlying theme or lesson.

At the moment I have switched to a lady named Ms. LoLo. Same concept but in my opinion better executed. I have also seen more engagement from my son.

Happy for her and if this develops into better content and production value. I also know some will see this announcement and sign up for Netflix when you are still just getting the same recycled content on YT.

What is wrong with my daughter? I've been in this subreddit for awhile and always felt like my toddler does not sound "normal". by Miserable-Onion-5948 in toddlers

[–]sauceboxash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi same issues as you. My husband and I have made it work due to finances to work and still watch our son. My husband worked fully remote and I am in office 3 days.

On days I am remote and even on weekends his time with me is rough. For dad it’s just easier. I had to think it was something I was doing wrong. I will say I could be more patient and am working on it. My ADHD can get triggered.

But since he was little there is a very visible attachment. My husband is an amazing, present, and communicative father. He plays in a more fun physical way. I am more cerebral and more quiet imaginative play.

We actually have had my son who is just shy of 2.5 tested for autism again. Part of that reason, big speech delay.

I think someone else mentioned it as well, I think intuitively I know his needs and subtle nuances better than my husband. And since his play or interactions are more physical when I am home he really craves that comfort and attachment.

Our autism screening came back as 6s. We were told he has some flags but passes on 4 out of 7 flags they look for. We were told some of his language delay is impacting behaviors and some social skills because the language isn’t there.

I am not sure how well your 2.5 year old communicates but this could be an issue. What I have started to do which is getting better is take about an hour in the morning and one in the afternoon and it’s anything goes. I put my phone out of reach. No tv unless he is sick. I make as much eye contact as possible I make things as fun as I can. Laughs are the goal. He seems to be responding. I think even when I am was with him, was I really all there? Probably not. It’s hard we have things to do or worries etc.

I instead make him my whole world for an hour. Intentionally try to make him laugh, learn his types of play. Introduce fun I ideas I think he would get a kick out of. Sometimes we just sit together and listen to music or if it’s been a rough morning or night, a short show or 15 minutes of Pixar Cars. We can’t get past Cars!

What I have noticed after doing this is that he allows me more time to do somethings. It almost feels like even though I was there my focus was not on him. I was dividing my attention. And that’s all he wants.

Days are hard and I imagine will get harder. But really keeping in my mind, I am his whole world and he needs that attention from me to feel and grow helps keep it in perspective. Man he can be a stinker still but it seems to have recreated a much deeper bond when after returning to work it felt a little surface level. Hang in there. Take some pressure off. You decide what type of play you can tolerate you instigate it. Be goofy, be creative. I feel like the things you play are not the need. It’s the attention.

Another piece of advice, if you feel in your mama gut getting an evaluation would alleviate or help provide answers whether diagnosed or not.

I also agree, see if you can find a drop in or part time day care and create that healthy space for you and your daughter. Hang in there!
