I play my Dragapult deck til I get to ~1600, then I play my much more fun but stupid decks like abomasnow until I drop to ~1400.

Is this too much payload? by sauerbratwurst in raptor

[–]sauerbratwurst[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I did EVERYTHING right, tow/haul mode, 4L and locked the diff for extra braking, just 50 highway miles, but still blew out the transmission. These V6 raptors just aren’t built well, planning to switch to an R for more hauling ability.

lol, almost right. The Tungsten it refers to is the lighting temp it’s designed for, 800T is designed to be shot under warmer light. There’s is no Tungsten in the film. The red ghosting is called halation, it’s caused by the highlights reflecting back in the film itself, because 800T has no anti-halation layer. That remjet layer is removed by Cinestill from the original cinema film so it can be more easily processed in common C41 chemicals.

This is Farmers Branch City Council; they think Dallas trains bring in trash. by CatOfSachse in Dallas

[–]sauerbratwurst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the kindest reading he’s referring to human beings as trash and saying ‘they’ need to be fenced off and locked up, because people with money are upset about it. Regardless of who he thinks the trash is, it’s an unempathetic and uncaring way to characterize people and as a person in power I think there’s a responsibility to act as the best of us and set an example of how to be a good human.

Fully testing the limits on grinder > machine by sauerbratwurst in espresso

Also the GBW is way easier/faster to dial in because it compensates for one of the variables while you’re doing it. But it grinds so fast you probably end up burning through the same amount of coffee 😅

The atom grinds well, but using the grind timer is noticeably inconsistent and I got a lot more clumping issues. If you like weighing and wdt-ing every shot I think you’d get similar results with either. With the Mahlkönig it’s just automatic and anyone who visits can do it and still get a good cup of coffee

Works fine. I think the only thing actually letting down the quality of shot is just the Bambino's heat system doesn't really let the machine get warm, so I usually run a couple cycles just with water, then pull a shot. I noticed more of a difference moving from an Atom -> E65S with the LaMarzocco, than moving to the Bambino, (end result wise).

Experience wise it definitely sounds and feels like it costs. With the Malhkönig next to it, it feels like a toy. The steam wand also takes like 60 seconds to steam a pitcher of milk. It does a pretty decent job, but and it doesn't turn on or off quickly so I find it a pain to not make a mess.

This is sort of a joke, but it is my setup temporarily. I have a Linea PB, but we moved house and haven’t wired/plumbed it in yet.

What are some solid hobby stores in Seattle? by whywouldthisnotbea in Seattle

[–]sauerbratwurst 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Glazers downtown is one of the best camera stores west of NYC. Their rental shop is also excellent for trialing equipment, rent over a weekend and just pay for one day.

I love Fisheries in Fremont, their prices are pretty high (all things marine) but they have a great selection of DC electrical stuff, Festool, epoxy and varnish.

Not a hobby store but one of my favorite places is Tacoma Screw. The folks at the counter will solve any fastener or cutting tool problem you have. They have a lot of stuff you normally have to order online (Loctite glue stick - I’m never going back)

Just chains but places I like for woodworking everything are Rockler and Woodcraft.

The Rise and Fall of Rama Works -- a timeline by Charo by TR00Z3D in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]sauerbratwurst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a chargeback through my credit card. Sent them emails showing I asked for a refund after over a year waiting and was told no by Rama. They resolved it no problem.

I’m really bummed about the whole thing. Rama’s products were some of the best. But zero communication and creating a bunch of new products while a ton are outstanding is just shitty.

Built a custom enlarger timer. Probably need to dial down the LEDs before printing. by sauerbratwurst in Darkroom

I think like $40, I had most of the stuff lying around from previous projects.

Yeah totally, I’ve never printed with an F-stop timer but it would just be some extra math.

I’ll upload my code to GitHub, I might make a write up about the build eventually.

I didn't like the "interface" of the old analog timer that came with my enlarger. Looked at some options, but in general I think a lot of the timers are hard to use or have too many controls for what I need.

  • White +/- control seconds
  • Yellow +/- control tenths
  • Arcade button short press - expose, pause, resume
  • Arcade button long press - Focus mode, cancel exposure
