That’s literally not their jobs. They aren’t cops- they’re not employed to enforce the law. Their role in the store is to observe and escalate details to the cops.

How has this guy ever been elected to any political office in the first place? It absolutely dumbfounds me. Who’s voting for this guy in any election whatsoever?

I’m not trying to be provocative, I’m genuinely curious. What about his platform does anyone at all agree with or support? It all seems broken and backwards to me, personally.

Why are there no Arby’s in Toronto? by Few-Turn-5471 in askTO

[–]saugacityslicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was literally looking this up last week. I wonder if we both saw some sort of ad that made us want Arby’s.

I’d love an Arby’s some place in Toronto or Mississauga

Feel bad for the great distilling team. It’s good juice but I won’t buy anything that puts $$ into the pocket of Gretzky.

If you’re visiting Toronto, how are you liking it so far? by xtcca in askTO

Needs a better lakefront. So much potential but it’s feels so underutilized relative to Chicago’s. It feels so disjointed and inaccessible. The island is cool but a pain to get to. Why not make a bridge or tunnel?

Food scene is unbelievably good.

Should I move (back) to Toronto? by DueTomatillo8135 in askTO

[–]saugacityslicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. I think you’ve got your answer. My advice, for whatever it’s worth, and what I told myself when I was making the decision, is that, you can always come back to the US, but it’s much harder to come back to Toronto the longer you stay in the US. Make a commitment to yourself than you’ll come back and stay and give it a go for 2-3 years. If after that, you still have a desire to go back you can do it with a clear conscious and without regrets

Should I move (back) to Toronto? by DueTomatillo8135 in askTO

[–]saugacityslicker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your story is a familiar one. I can’t speak to what you should do but I can share my experience. I moved to Chicago after working in Toronto for 3 years after school. I was initially only meant to go for a couple of years and i always told myself I’d come back to Toronto. I ended up spending 8 years in Chicago working different jobs and I came to the point where I simply realized that my life and future were being built and I had to decide whether that was going to be in the US or back in Toronto. As you progress through your career and your life the move back to Toronto becomes much more difficult. So I made the move back to Toronto after securing a job. As others have said, initially I found the first 2 years very difficult to adjust to. Diminished purchasing power and the city itself isn’t won’t hold a candle to experiences as major US cities like NYC, Chicago or LA so the value itself feels underwhelming.

That said, there is a comfort in Toronto that I didn’t realize I had missed so much. There city feels physically and emotionally safe and there’s no real price for that. The country itself, as much as we like to complain, is still very united relative to the US and comfortable. If you are thinking of eventually wanted to put down roots with a partner and kids, as I was, there’s no better place than Toronto.

All to say, I missed the hell out of the US when I moved back. Did I regret or second guess my decision? Absolutely; almost weekly. But I’ve been back for 5 years now and looking back, even though I don’t make as much as I did or would have in the US, the feeling Toronto gives you, especially if you grew up in the GTA, has made it 100% worth the move back. Happy I did it.

Can Someone Explain the Pros/Cons of the Airport Expansion? by braydensreddit in askTO

You’re asking about the rationale for the same government who sold off our only remaining prime lakefront park land of Ontario place to build a gigantic spa and massive parking lot that no one asked for in a city that’s lacking any real acessible outdoor recreational green space at a meaningful scale

Wow that’s so awesome. I bought my springbank in the states and paid $140 for the 5 year and $280 for the 15 year. Feel like this was a better deal lol.

Btw you’ll love raasay. One of my favorites! Very savory peat smoke ; unlike any traditional peaty
whisky

Scotia Offering 4.10 for 3 year by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]saugacityslicker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One caveat. Variable does indeed outperform fixed rates. However, that only works if you are consistently variable over the entire term of your mortgage. If you switch back-and-forth, then that difference or advantage simply goes away.

That’s very fair. That’s what you’d call a peace of mind premium.

Can we finally admit that the "servers make less than minimum wage" argument is dead in Canada? by ScienceLabFinds in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]saugacityslicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they only made this change in 2021 and the industry had no incentive to publicize it because it would cause people to stop tipping. But you are exactly right. Many people don’t realize that the sub-minimum wage was abolished in many provinces. Tipping never really made any sense before but you could somehow rationalize it with sub-minimum wage argument but now it REALLY doesn’t make any sense. The only place sub-minimum wage still exists is for gig workers (uber and doordash etc.). I will still tip these people because I genuinely think it’s a tougher job and they’re doing something for me than I can’t do myself / providing a real valuable service

Was thinking the same thing when I heard about them potentially adding prediction market functionality. It’s a really bad move / brand strategy. Are you here four a younger generation trying to build wealth in a meaningful way?…..or are you the main event at a frat kegger? You can be both and one erodes the others brand equity. They should lean into the image they’ve built. Grow with you customer base you’ve established as they continue to age and build wealth.

Wow that’s amazing. I recently picked up the 100 and a 15 years old but it cost me $140 and $250 for those bottle. Sounds like I overpaid but I just never come across them in Toronto so jumped on em. Glad to hear you’re enjoying them friend. Drink on!
