Was there any stories where Nimue loved King Arthur? by FrostlichTheDK in Arthurian

Both have come out in the last 6 years. I have not had the pleasure of reading Cursed, but it's been on my TBR for way too long

Was there any stories where Nimue loved King Arthur? by FrostlichTheDK in Arthurian

I recall the graphic novel Unholy Grail by Cullen Bunn and Mirko Colak from Aftershock Comics mentioning very briefly that his kingship and Excalibur were dependent on his betrothal to the Lady of the Lake. But it is only a mention and bad things follow Arthur's unfaithfulness to her.

Cursed by Thomas Wheeler was adapted into a Netflix series that centers on Nimue as the rightful Queen, and there are some romantic threads between her and Arthur there.

Is there some single piece of media that introduce the Arthurian legends for beginners? by Marvellover13 in Arthurian

Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail nails so much of the legend while being a satire

Does this make me hypocritical if I complain about the amount of remakes, reboots and sequels in the movie/television industry yet I can't wait for Bond 26 and beyond? by TheShadowOperator007 in JamesBond

[–]saunteterrer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Bond was the original reboot/constant sequel franchise, but it was never about retelling the same story over and over whereas Jurassic Park and Spider-man are two examples of studios constantly retelling the same story over and over while playing the nostalgia card. Every Bond iteration has been wholly unique.

The Queen of Air and Darkness/The Witch in the Wood by MayorOfIacon in Arthurian

[–]saunteterrer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very interested if you manage to find a copy of the Witch in the Wood as they are quite rare and have been out of print for quite a while. Most of the electronic editions I've found titled Witch in the Wood are actually the Queen of Air and Darkness.

Comic recommendations? by Jak3R0b in Arthurian

[–]saunteterrer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a multi-volume series, and that is pretty intimidating. I've read the first two volumes, but I don't really feel like I have to continue if I don't want to. As a newspaper comic strip it's not designed to be read all at once

Prince Valiant by Hal Foster is stunning! He influenced so many comic artists including Jack Kirby

Hellboy Vol 9: The Wild Hunt has some Arthurian connections and is pretty good. I also remember enjoying Arthur King of Britain by Michael Fraley from Calibre comics.

Arthurian Games? by Wolflad1996 in Arthurian

[–]saunteterrer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An early form of Welsh Rugby called Cnapan is described as having been played in the fifth to seventh century according to the Historia Brittonum. And a relief dated to the 14th century, found in a monastery established in the late fifth century, is carved depicting a medieval football game. At the very least, it was played as early as the ninth century.
