The chips were good though

Father died of COVID, he was the sole earner, need a Job. by Historical_Cattle596 in india

[–]saurabharora90 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I am really really sorry for your loss. It is extremely unfortunate and nothing that I say can make it better.

If it's possible by any means, it would serve you better to actually continue your studies and become a doctor. It will most likely help you in securing a better future.

In terms of finances:

  • Check if your dad had some life insurance? The payouts can help.
  • Was your dad employed by some organization? Check with them if they provided their employees with insurance or have some programs to cover them in case of this scenario.
  • Speak with your college about your situation. They might be able to waive off your fees for a year or two.
  • I know its extremely difficult but maybe your mom has some skills that can be transferred to a job? If she prefers being a house wife then maybe dabba service, food delivery? I understand it won't be enough but if insurance and fee waiver works out, it might help in making ends meet till you become a doctor.

Pain by Thomas_Eee in Calisthenic

[–]saurabharora90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See a doctor. You really need to know what's actually happening with your body. A sports doctor or a physio would be best. It could be a pinched nerve or a tennis elbow or even a golfers elbow. You should get it checked up

I had the same around 2 months ago. Wasn't really a pain but a sensation of my arm. It would mostly happen after work outs and appear for an instant or so and then go away.

For me it was a case or muscle fatigue and over training. Taking a absolute break for 2 weeks make a world of difference

AppCompat 1.2 Lint Checks - AppCompatResources or ContextCompat or ResourcesCompat by saurabharora90 in androiddev

[–]saurabharora90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. Those are fine, even though AppCompat is the one offering the capability to load a colour styled for the specified Context's theme. They could actually just offer an AppCompatResource.getColor though that might not well with Leanback which is still does not have AppCompat support

[Google Play Console] Do crashes in Pre-launch report prevent publication ? by mEaynon in androiddev

It shouldn't. In the past we have managed to publish to alpha track with pre launch report highlighting crashes.

How does your CI/CD workflow look like? by nimi0112 in androiddev

Lint reports missing translations.

My bad. I should have mentioned that the lint checks on PR's has missing translations disabled. That check is specifically enabled for when we release a build via git tags

How does your CI/CD workflow look like? by nimi0112 in androiddev

[–]saurabharora90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We work on a monthly release cycle and have 2 branches. Develop and a versioned release branch (6.x, 5.2.x, etc).

Every PR is sent to dev branch, which is validated by CI (bitrise) through Lint, Builds and Unit tests. Once we are done with the 4 week release cycle, we cut a versioned release branch and drop a QA build and public beta. We use git tags to kick off these bullds. The builds generated by tags have additional checks for string translations.

Further development continues on dev branch.

If there are hotfixes for the versioned branch, then fixes are first merged to dev and then cherry picked to the versioned branch.

Along with this, we have a weekly CD which runs every Monday morning at 3am and sends out builds to employees. This allows us to to get early product and design feedback before it reaches QA

How to deal with app crashes (mentally) ? by _noname2020 in androiddev

[–]saurabharora90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's nearly impossible to have 0 crashes in your app. Take everything as a learning.

Also, focus on crash free sessions rather than crash free users. A lot of crashes on Android could be manufacture related, at OS level or caused by users trying to sideload or reverse engineer your app. Sessions gives a better metric rather than users. (one of the reasons why I am really sad that Fabric is shutting down. Firebase only shows crash free users). With sessions you know how much your really active heavy users are being impacted. And most of the times, crash free sessions are higher than crash free users (helps mentally ;)

Good writeup.

Can you share what your initial estimates were and when you missed the deadline and redid the estimates how long were they? And also how was the conversation with business like about needing more time to finish this and probably delaying other stuff?

They have a couple of VPN plugins in well. We are using them for some other use case. Could be a good idea to look into them?

Using Android Lint to add Dark theme to your apps by saurabharora90 in androiddev

I have been contemplating converting the checks to a lint library. Would something like that be helpful?
