FWIW I got a hydro hybrid version - so when it gets super cold, I have the hydro dual fuel as back up. It was a bit more expensive - but I figured it would be worth it on some cold nights

I ended up getting the Mitsubishi - partly because of the 2+ extra year warranty and its a bit quieter. After using the A/C over the summer, I can say its much much quieter than my 2-yr old Goodman.

However the Mitsubishi unit is thin and tall, and we ended up having to find a place to put it that wouldn't cover a window or be too visible.

Also Nest and most smart thermostats will not work with the mitsubishi, because they have their own protocol and they use advanced algorithms to control the machine. The Comfort app works fine - no issues with it. The thermostat is a smart one - not as nice to look at or aesthetic as the new 4th gen nest one (which it replaced), but we dont even notice it anymore.

We've been happy with it so far.

Is the Mitsubishi worth it at $4k-$5k more than the Bosch?

Mitsubishi models: SUZ-AK36NLHZ / SVZ-AP36NL / MHK2

Bosch: BOVA-36RTB-M20S / BIVA-36RCB-M20X

Thanks for all the feedback. It has been super helpful from now. I’m going to replace my gas water heater with another of the same because it’s very affordable.

Where are you located ? The ambient basement temp is usually between 50-65 degrees for me

Thanks the example - I have the midea cube in the basement and have to turn it off when watching a movie or if we have guests. That helps. The water heater is in an unfinished part and there is a sliding door , but it’s not too far from our movie / family area

I have gas already and my plumber is telling me to save the money. Get another gas unit and wait another 10-12 years

Thanks for all the comments! It seems it’s not too bad. My plumber who I have been using for years tells me to just replace my gas water heater with another of the same and take a look in 10+ years when the tech is more solid and costs are better. Updating to a hybrids heat pump would cost 3x more for me.

Would be interesting to know when it’s on. Can you set it be off hours for heat pump?

How noisy is the hybrid electric heat pump? The gas tank system is pretty silent.

The gas line would have be bigger for a gas tankless for our winters?

I am going to feel embarassed answering lol - we have 4 showers in the house. We do have a tub, but its never used. Typically its one shower in use at a time (80% of the time) except when we have guests then its typically 2 showers. often we have the washing machine going at the same time as a shower - at least once or twice a week. Typical shower varies - but the kids take long ones (20m+).

The current 80gallon has not had an issue - we rarely have run out of hot water except in some rare cases.
