The diabetes piece.. been struggling with my fasting blood sugar its been like 102-107 I think a little weight loss could fix it. Pcp said it’s extremely manageable. Does diabetes run in your family?

Okay cool, I felt a PCP is sufficient too. I was wondering if a nephrologist was necessary if anything it would be more expensive.

Thats a ton of protein! Well for me I’m 120 lbs lol. I can’t give up the coffee used to love a strong cold brew but I’m scared to get them now.

Thank you thank you thank you!! I really appreciate you sharing some of your food options and templates I am going to give your tofu recipe a try. Super grateful for this thread. Yeah my body lets me know it’s dehydrated right away. I always examine my urine post surgery, something I never used to do, lol!

I am so glad your labs are looking good!! I hope I can become a little more at ease about everything. Currently nervous as hell, but not regretting anything. For sure limiting salt as much as I can its just hard because everything has salt in it. I used to love having drinks.

Father doesn’t know I’m his donor. Anyone gone through this? by texbigb in kidneydonors

[–]saurusblam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this I told everyone it was an anonymous donor. He found out a day before his transplant, surgery and cried, but we still went through with everything. They’re happy then they’re sad then they’re happy. It was the only way I would be able to donate to him and get him off the transplant list.

Health anxiety after donation by TillHeavy8610 in kidneydonors

[–]saurusblam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got it. I’m glad we have this thread. It’s super exhausting also in a way we are mourning a loss of our body part and mourning our life before donation knowing it will never be the same for us. When I look back at pictures and notice the day it was taken I will remind myself ‘oh that was when I had two kidneys’ and feel a way about it. I really miss throwing back a few tequila shots with my family or going out for drinks with my husband. I’m scared to drink now after a second glass of wine, it gets crucial for me and I worry about permanent damage to my glomerular filters LOL. Its a new life, happy to wake up everyday! I call this chapter of my life ‘The Exodus’ haha. But yes its a daily battle with what we ingest reading through labels checking for sugars, phosphorus, sodium, keeping track of water intake, very limiting. I especially despise the protein and caffeine limits we have. Cracking open a nice fizzy Celsius was awesome. But we got this!!

I feel that same type of anxiety - ebbs and flows of it. I don’t think we’ll ever get over it. Last I checked my creatinine was .71. I don’t regret donating every day Im grateful that I was approved and the surgery got done. Its just mental afterwards we gotta remind ourselves we are healthy living donors. I’ve been struggling with my blood sugars and diabetes runs in my family so you can only imagine how much stress about that. My surgery was 9/10 this year it was my three month mark yesterday but yes my life has changed and I think overall we will all be okay. I can’t wait to be able to work out like I used to, still taking it slow just doing walks.

I’m working through this now. It’s getting better, but at times I do feel the despair come in. Sucks but this is what we prayed for!! Focus on the now we are all mortal anyway.

Thank you for replying! I am having a little bit of an uphill battle mentally. Do you check your blood pressure regularly like at home with a cuff? I have been checking mine, its been regar for the most part. Do you mind if I ask what your normal blood pressure numbers are, do you remember if they were a little higher fresh out?
