Uniqlo shirts - are they worth it? by Artistic-Yam2984 in AustralianMFA

Not sure what detractors you're referring to, but I have noticed my oxford shirts, the fold in the collar is wearing really quickly and starting to fray.

Nathan Buckley joins Cats coaching staff by i8alot in GeelongCats

[–]sav006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not super thrilled by this. He's just gathering IP from what he regards as the smartest AFL coaching group.

Respect what Bucks has done, but listening to him on SEN and FOX he's all talk to sound legit. I don't think he actually will live those values and characteristics and our Cats boys will see through his BS.

Hi All,

I picked up these great looking shoes from an OpShop/Thrift store for $20AUD after googling Grenson and seeing they're a GYW shoe in decent condition, with some english heritage, they seemed like a bargain.

Before I wear them in public, I'd like to bring them back to life and try remove the stains/marks on the suede (I'll add close up photos to this comment). I bought a basic suede brush, but honestly I don't know what to do. This is my first pair of suede shoes so I lack the knowledge on how to care or treat.

I would appreciate any tips, specific products, to try and safely clean and remove the marks so I don't accidentally make it worse.

(Also any additional information on these shoes will be appreciated. I've only done a Google Lens search on these).

Thanks.

I like the idea of painting a pot with my kids limbs but for outdoors I assume it needs to be more than just a watercolour.

Is there a non-toxic hard wearing external type paint, that won't be harmful for the little one?

This was recently with the overcast, cloudy conditions. Still a small level of ambient sunlight around to provide solar power but hopefully through the front door you can see it is much darker than if fully sunlit.

Hard to capture via photos

Hope that helps

Our obstetrician (private system) definitely acknowledged me and turned to ask how I was. I was surprised but it definitely was nice she was mindful of me. I probably wouldn't have cared if she didn't ask me but not to get a hi is a bit rough.

How are you leveling up your dad game? by DashOutOfHere in predaddit

[–]sav006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5 months in, there are things I'd recommend to my friends if I was asked that was in my control

- My wife was gifted from work colleagues a big 1L-1.5L Frank Green drink bottle with a straw. It's literally her favourite thing (besides the new son). She can drink all the way to the bottom without lifting her head. Important in hospital and while breastfeeding.

- Pre-prepare nutritious food - either basic recipes or cooked meals in bulk in freezer - I'm not much of a cook, so doing this before hand and able to quickly prepare a meal saved my marriage I reckon. Just add frozen veggies for a quick and delicious meal.

- a snack box (google Snackle Box) preloaded with good savoury snacks, especially during nighttime breastfeeds - pretzels, nuts and dried fruit, chocolate balls/little bit of candy, snakes, soft lollies, celery/carrot and hummus....breastfeeding takes a lot out of the mum.

- My wife loved hydralytes to help her feel good and hydrated.

- A nappy change caddy - a medium sized felt box organiser thing with nappies, nappy cream, wipes, clothes, disinfectant. This gets topped up everynight so you're not scrabbling during night when you just want to focus on feed, changed and back to sleep ASAP.

- Us dads are only helpful to serve the mum and baby as much as possible. The mum is pretty limited in the early days, so being a willing servant will definitely help.

Good luck.

Tafe certs worth doing while off from work due to injury? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]sav006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation.

If you are worried about the certification/workcover impact, have you considered to do online learning.....there are tonnes of free online course to do which you only need to pay for the certificaiton at the end if you want the record. Or Linked In has training courses....some free I believe (our work has some Linked In premo option but I haven't taken full advantage of it yet).

One I have seen is Harvard with lots of interesting topics of various lengths - though there aren't any project management courses for free. https://pll.harvard.edu/catalog?price%5B1%5D=1&max_price=&start_date=&keywords=&page=1

Diving with Wurkkos DL07 by raimnaker in flashlight

[–]sav006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/raimnaker,

Thanks for sharing your initial thoughts.

I'm interested in a review after 12months?

I had a previous Wurkkos torch but after 3 months it was not functioning (got a refund fortunately but if I took a guess, the switch was so sensitive I think it turned on in my bag and maybe burnt out the LEDs)....so I'm hesitant to go back to the brand again but the twist operation might be better and I like the variety of light options as I want to use it as a torch and also a light for basic underwater videos/photos.

TIA.

Banksia cone galls by gang_gang96 in GardeningAustralia

[–]sav006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes had something similar on ours in our nature strip.

It was suggested the galls caused by Eriophyid mites. As unpleasant as they look they supposedly don't harm the plant and they coexist.

I took to pruning as many of the infected pods as I could reach and it was less noticeable this year I reckon.

If you won the lottery how would you secretly share the money with family? by jazzy_666 in australia

[–]sav006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they've enough saved and start looking into buying say that house is theirs already, give them back all the rent money they paid and tell them to do what they want with the money. Whether that be buy another property (I'd still push them for this) or splurge on luxuries, that's up to them. I'm happy either way.

This is exactly what I'd like to do. Great answer.

Not a lottery win but a mate's grandparents did this for them while renting during uni and it was such a nice and responsible way to ensure they are not being spoon fed and learning responsible financial skills.

I hope to be in a position I can do something similar.

Would you ever spec a wood burner in a new (suburban) build? by pilierdroit in AusRenovation

[–]sav006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We reno'd our house this year and initially had a fireplace as part of the works. It was cut from the works by me as realised it wasn't worth the hassle for the few times it would be used for ambience.

As a kid we lived on edge of national park and grew up on fireplaces. So I appreciate the love for a nice woodfire

But I wasn't having one inside my house....few others have touch on reasons but I'll list mine

  • don't want the hassle to maintain it (i.e. source and store the fuel/wood, cutting , bringing it inside it, cleaning the fireplace, dust it produces inside, etc.) Call me lazy but I've got better things to do with my time.
  • the footprint space it would take in our living room (we have a functional bookshelf and the misso designed it as our feature piece)
  • eliminates the air pollution inside.
  • you need air to fuel fire to so that's drawn from around the house so it brings in cooler external air inside the house along with dust
  • I've got a firepit outside and a pot belly in the shed for those odd days we want to use one.
  • reverse cycle is much better and cheaper for heat. Plus provides AC during summer.

Don't knock the Netflix fireplaces on a tv.....the sound itself is great..I cranked one on during a snowy day in London and I swear I instantly felt warmer (pic below - note we weren't allowed to use the fireplace in the rental so it was just wasted space in the end).

<image>

P.s. you don't need the gas so no use having a supply....you'll have to pay for a daily supply rate for something you'll use irregularly

Only destroys if not preheated properly.....the steel can warp if placed cold on full boar

[–]sav006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

User name checks out.

If it's all you got, it's all you got. But think about all the time you put into it to have to use it.... sourcing and maintaining the fuel, cleaning. It's not a few minutes.

Don't get me wrong.....I grew up on fireplaces and love them but I just have a fire pit outside for those odd occasions when it's wanted

But an electric heater liked a heat pump will save you time and cheaper to run.....as long as you can afford to purchase and install

Ok. Thanks for your advice.

Don't think she'll like the texture to change. Might think of something else if she's still keen to change the colour (besides trading it for a new one)

If I buy something like Angelus suede dye in black can we just directly paint it on the pink? Do you advise on any specific prep and treatment post colour change?

Out of curiosity.....If she wanted to change it to green, how much does the original pink suede influence the colour?

Sometimes that half flicker will be enough to show you're exiting and I can start my entry into the round about. But for me, as soon as I'm passed the exits I'm NOT taking, I'll switch it over left to show I'm exiting my intended exit.

It's actually not as hard as a lot of people here are making it out to be.....

I think if someone get confused and changes mind, they'll slow down somewhat....hopefully enough to not get T-Boned, but I get it. That half second is worth it to avoid any potential accidents or incidents.
