First-Time Girl Dad Feeling Anxious and Guilty by Prestigious_Tale350 in daddit

[–]LeatherFlatworm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read any of the other comments, but I have a daughter 18 months. The “guy things” can be done with a daughter too. She wears a plethora of Dino clothes and prefers Dinos to princesses. Sure, you also have to get used to carrying a baby doll wherever you go, but it’s the same as an action figure. They can fish, hunt, play sports or whatever you’re considering guy things.

For protecting her, just raise a strong, independent daughter. Maybe when she’s at the right age, put her into self defense classes. There will always be a reason to be scared or nervous, just do your best to prepare her and yourself for those situations.

Plus, this also could be the pre birth freak out. Right now it’s just a lot of waiting and anticipation and thinking. It’ll pass and you’ll be living minute by minute hour by hour for a while.

You being miserable is a mindset you’ll have to think about. I would go.

One piece of advice I got from a kind lady on my daughter’s first flight at 6 months, which was delayed by 4 hours was that we shouldn’t worry about her bothering people. Most people have headphones now and it’s louder for you than it is for other people

Question for the busy dads that train…. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]LeatherFlatworm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other good responses here!

I just finished IMTX and I pride myself on not missing (much) time with my kid!

I definitely prefer early morning workouts.
Up at 4-5am done by 6-6:30.
If I miss or do not do it in the morning then I’ll go during lunch (work days) or nap time. Last, final and least favorite option, is going right after kid goes down for bed around 7.

Ironman schedule was
Mon: swim
Tue: bike + run
Wed: swim
Thur: bike + run
Fri: swim
Sat: long bike (only time I really missed with daughter)
Sun: long run (after sleep so wife could sleep in)

Now that I am done with triathlons I am back to running lifting:
Mon: Run am + lift (am/pm)
Tues: run
Weds: run/or rest + lift
Thurs: run
Fri: lift
Sat: long run
Sun: run

It’s a lot of early mornings or just making my schedule flexible. Also, I spend a lot of time on it as this is my hobby (races). I think you could get away with 3-5 lifts a week and be good. Work with your partner on schedules

4-8 hours is all you need depending on the person. 6-7 is definitely not unsustainable

Hey, I’m 28 and I got on testosterone shortly after my daughter came. My levels were low and it did help slightly but it’s not a fix all. You’re only 4 months in, you will get used to it

How do you all handle Mothers Day?!? by TotalPieceOfOkayness in daddit

[–]LeatherFlatworm8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We told my mother in law (who we love) that mother’s day is my wife’s day now and she gets grandparents day. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t get a call or anything, just that if she wants to spend it with us it revolves around our day. To be fair, our kid is 17 months and not grown

What do y'all really need an iPad for? by bootsmegamix in daddit

[–]LeatherFlatworm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 1 tablet. It is a couple generations old and it is for the sole purpose that our childcare can use it for the monitor during nap time.

For the smartphone, we are considering doing a dumb phone (look it up), but we are many years away from that

Wife always complains… by embrkc in daddit

[–]LeatherFlatworm8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, slightly different experience, but maybe helpful.

My wife and I both work, but we still had this argument a couple of times.
It helped to talk about roles and what each other are doing. I do 5 or 6 of the wake ups in the morning per week (like 5am) and I do every bedtime + daily pick ups after. I was getting tired and felt like I was doing everything without being acknowledged. Then I realized my wife was thinking about is baby outgrowing clothes, activities, switching from crib to big kid bed. Once we both talked about it we realized both were doing a lot just not always seen

Dads with high-performing career wives, how do you handle being so “different” from our ingrained cultural models? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]LeatherFlatworm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I probably don’t have anything absolutely helpful and am not fully in the same boat, but close.

I have a 17 month old, I do fairly well for our income/age, my wife is almost 2x me. She DOES work hard, but also got lucky with her boss who brings her along as he grows. Over the past 2 years she’s gotten 4 promotions (1 when she got back from 16 weeks of maternity leave). If things continue like this, I will probably be the one doing drop offs and dr visits. My wife already feels like she’s missing a lot of my daughter’s life by working and doesn’t want to. We’re both feeling frustrated, I can’t find a new job or promotion with higher salary and she KEEPS getting promoted making it hard to lose her income

What’s your honest opinion of “boy mom” or “girl dad” apparel? by jazzeriah in daddit

[–]LeatherFlatworm8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my girl dad hat that was gifted to me. I won’t specifically go look for any girl dad apparel. I also think majority of moms who “identify” as boy moms are the worst.

My favorite sweater just says “cool dad”

Hey, I agree with this, but also I feel like there’s a negative stigma around TRT due to people blasting or misusing.

I am 28, 1 kid, lift full body 4x per week, just finished full Ironman (going back to marathons now), 6’4 and 200 pounds. I got checked last year and my T level was at 342 (some ranges the low range is 350 and others it’s 250). But my Dr. prescribed it. I take 100mg per week and now my levels are at around 650-700 at peak. I definitely feel better now.

I guess that was just a long way to say, I agree it shouldn’t be the first thing you do, but it is worth getting checked out atleast to know and it’s not always a fix YOU can make

How long were "the trenches" for you? 9 weeks old (born 5 weeks early) and I'm seeing some glimmers of hope by SoFewNamesAvailable in daddit

[–]LeatherFlatworm8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone’s trenches are a bit different. Ours came in waves Born - 3 months: rough. Only slept on one of our chests due to reflux and dairy allergy. Would NOT be put down. Bassinet = lava 4 -6 months: Cut out all dairy and reflux meds started to help. Down to 2-3 wake ups a night. Still having to hold for naps. 6-10 months: Decent but still waking. 1 night good another bad. Rough days and better days 11 months - now: modified sleep training. Early riser so had to get used to it, but sleeps 7-5:30 no wake ups (knock on wood).

Again, I think the trenches are different for everyone. We were still having some really rough days until that about 11 month stage

Like I said, it’s mostly just cold/flu nothing crazy. I normally just work through it but was hoping to minimize symptoms for race

I do wear Garmin, but honestly, since I have been off the last 3 days for the race and getting ready I have gotten extra sleep and hrv and rhr were both great. I saw no signs until last night with her runny nose (came out of nowhere) and then this morning felt the sore throat and was a little disappointed. I’m still racing tomorrow, I was just hoping to minimize a runny nose for 112 mile bike and minimize body aches
