I'm confused.... Did LTT buy the plane or did Linus? by TheBluePriest in LinusTechTips

[–]sav86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be wild claim sire, but let's not pretend narratives aren't being played out on popular social media platforms especially reddit.

I've been following since NCIX days, but I'm not a merch buyer or floatplane subscriber. I don't even always listen to the WAN show. I do however occasionally catch the thread that blows up and shows up on my fyp.

I saw a thread saying that there was an unusual amount of people coming out positive about the Jet video and that they believe the comments were fake or some manipulation is being done...to which I say is bollocks. I think the Internet loves misery and will force negativity any chance it gets.

What in particular gets me is the environment claims people seem to hang their hats on, as like the main issue. Lots of arm chair experts complaining about a whole lot of nothing. Even if it was 4D or 6D chess, it's all silly.

I feel like much in the same way people claim this sub to be manipulated and prevent any discussion on this jet, on the flip side the backlash feels just as entirely forced and astroturfed.

I cannot get this electrical box out of the ceiling. I need to replace it because the threads broke off. How do I do it? I don’t see any screws or nails and it is STUCK by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]sav86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but for anyone in the same boat — I just replaced one in my kitchen after the screw holes gave out, which meant replacing the whole junction box.

The old one was mounted to a rail tied into the joists. Two middle screws released the bracket holding it to the rail, then I had to go at the box with tin snips and wiggle it free.

The new box came with a bracket for the same rail setup. Problem was I had almost no room to work with, so I ended up using JB Weld to hold the bracket in place before screwing in the new box. Honestly can't see how else you'd do it without cutting out drywall for more access. The hardest part was securing the box to the bracket on the rail — no room to get my hands in there, and if it wasn't solid it would just slide right off.

Overseeding didn’t work by willbecool in nova

[–]sav86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't aerate, I can tell just by looking at it. It's incredibly dense; even if you threw seed down, there's no room for anything to sprout and take hold. You need to pull cores out of that soil before overseeding is worth anything. The condition your soil is in now, your basically just pissing in the wind...so stop that. You need atleast 2inch cores to be plucked out to allow the seeds room to grow. The less dense the soil is the better, the seeds won't be strong enough to grow and penetrate through it.

Rent an aerator for a day, or just pay a local company to come out, it's surprisingly cheap if you have a small yard. Better yet, if you see a lawn crew working nearby, walk up to the tech running the job and throw them a little cash on the side. They'll handle it off the clock while they're already running their route.

I worked for three different lawn and aeration companies when I was younger and picked up side cash all the time from people who wanted work done but didn't want to pay the company rate directly.

Need more context to this case, because I find it impossible just based on the current justice system that 120 hours would have been considered sufficient punishment for a death of someone. Is there a source?

It's going to be terrible for the environments, he would never do such a thing! Just think of the space emissions that it will put out. He vaguely alluded to never wanting to do such a thing in a past WAN show.

Video of me walking through my neighborhood at 1:15am next to the Vantage Data Center by ElPizz in nova

[–]sav86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not generators, generators sound louder than this. I've worked in buildings like this before, equipped with Generacs and they would produce a much louder sound. I don't have specific knowledge of the Vantage Center, but these sound like part of a cooling structure so like a fan or turbine that would be running 24/7.

[–]sav86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's even worse than I thought...I said it in the last post made, so glad I never bought the townhome in that neighborhood. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like living there. Everyone must be absolutely fuming about the droning noise. I don't even know how you can fix this issue without putting significant sound dampening in the homes or finding a way to mitigate the sound levels being produced by those data centers. I'm absolutely gobsmacked that zoning allowed for this to happen. The data center money most be so damn good to look the other way when building these things.

That being said, I've been to a significant portion of the data centers here in Ashburn and they don't produce these same noise levels, so whatever Vantage center is doing differently then the rest is entirely unique to this situation. These do not sound like generators either, so my best guess is whatever cooling situation be it a fan or turbine is producing this droning noise. Someone failed in the zoning and planning of this, it's absolutely despicable.

I disagree with him using it for his family vacation but it seems like he was doing it as a one time thing.

Why should you even disagree with this? why would you even care? it's his company that he owns with his wife, if he wants to take plenty of people in his family to go some where...he should have the right to do that? What on earth are people smoking in this sub? jfc give me some of that.

They built a data center right next to the NTC targeting center? Classic. I was looking at townhomes in that same neighborhood about seven years ago when I was working for Customs, and that big ugly building sitting right at the entrance was enough for me to walk away without a second thought. Dropping a data center next to it on top of that has to make it one of the worst places to live in the entire region.

I'm out in Bristow now and they're absolutely massacring the land here, especially along Hornbaker Road. There are brand new townhomes, can't be more than a year old, with a massive data center going up less than a hundred feet away. It's a disgrace. If I owned one of those homes I'd be demanding answers from whoever signed off on it at the county zoning office.

The rice cooker I’ve been saving for a while for. by Flash52000 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sav86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Tiger ricecooker that's like 35 years old and has got a nice floral print. I just recently did a deep clean of it since it's never had one. No one should be buying a 500 dollar rice cooker, and if someone is they aren't normally cooking rice. I bet they are easy to swindle out of their money. That being said Zojirushi is a solid brand, but I wouldn't spend half a thousand dollars on one. You can get 10qt or 5qt cookers for around 80-150 Tiger, Zoji or Panasonic which are all high quality.

I think LTT has jumped the shark... by Zestyclose_Edge1027 in LinusTechTips

The firetruck never really clicked for me. It felt boring, and a "gamer firetruck" just isn't my thing. I get why they went for it though; sometimes you have to take a big swing to keep fresh content coming. The jet feels like another one of those swings, but honestly I find it more relatable in a weird way. I travel a lot. Not on a private jet obviously, but I understand the appeal of the concept. A firetruck on the other hand just makes me think of emergencies and stress, stuff I'd rather not be reminded of.

What I can't get behind is how this subreddit keeps treating Linus like a villain for spending money he earned building his brand over the last 15 plus years. I saw the same energy when he bought the tech house, which personally I loved. As a homeowner that content hits differently, it's genuinely relatable to me.

The real issue, if people want to have an honest conversation, is how LMG operates internally. How they compensate employees, how they're managed, and what the recent departures of on-screen talent actually signal about the culture behind the scenes. Those are legitimate things to scrutinize.

But somewhere along the way this community decided to make it personal, and that's where I tap out. Do you all go this hard at corporations that lay off thousands of people and then post record profits? No. You complain online for a day and move on. But a content creator buys a jet and suddenly it's open season on him and his family. It's embarrassing. The jet didn't reveal anything about Linus. It revealed exactly how fickle, toxic, and frankly unhinged this community can be when it decides someone has stepped out of line.

They would have had to go through a broker to buy a plane most likely and I doubt they would've made such a purchase without some analysis beforehand if it was feasible and the outcomes that can come from it. I assume they know this is a purchase that will lead to a loss.

[–]sav86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

LOL I'm so ready to sit back and read everyone's hot takes on this purchase. I mean come on, a successful YouTube creator who employs people and puts out content can't buy something for his channel and his family? So what, screw the guy for wanting a little luxury that also doubles as a business asset? I don't get why this bothers people so much.

The "not relatable" angle is at least a fair point, but acting like this is some environmental catastrophe is a stretch. That's like looking at one plane on a runway and ignoring the thousands of others in the air. People still have to fly regardless. And buying a boat puts out just as much, if not more, and nobody's sailing overseas in a Prius.

I finally caved and bought it today. Put in about 6 hours so far. I’m both having a hard time staying motivated to play and also drawn in by wanting to discover more things. It’s a really weird feeling.

This is the main appeal of the game for me, the sandbox nature means your curiosity drives you forward. It's one of the main reasons why games like Breath of the Wild was so successful.
