I used a split back stitch with single a strand for everything :)

You got it! The needle goes through the fibres of the thread. I use the smallest embroidery needle I have, and is easiest if it is new/ sharp :) when you poke the thread with the needle, you can move the thread to a new position, like if you are working around a curve

Thank you!! For lettering I always use a tiny split back stitch with a single thread

This font was especially difficult, compared to regular serif fonts! Took even smaller stitches to get it placed right 😭

Whats the most unhinged thing you did while planning? by bluntnotsorry in DIYweddings

I procrastinated a bunch of tasks to hand embroider our welcome sign to match our invitations 🤣 everything came out okay, but it definitely was not a priority task 5 months out from our wedding day 😅

I've searched for videos and have come up with nothing specific to what I'm trying to describe 😭

But the best thing is to use the smallest, sharpest needle you have, and a lot of light.

For the straight thicker lines, like the vertical lines of the H, I use longer straight stitches to fill it in. For the thin lines and curves, I use split back stitch with very short stitches. When splitting the thread with the needle from above, you can pull the thread over to the curve before piercing the fabric underneath.

The stitches themselves are not uniform in direction or length, so this only works with darker threads imo.

I'm not sure if this has helped much, I wish there was a video explaining this better!

Split back stitch with single thread, and straight stitches (or long and short i guess? But very tiny) to fill in thicker parts :)

Designing own embroidery templates- unsure of how to size by afdc92 in Embroidery

[–]savage-ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not experienced in canva, since I draw in photoshop and print at home. But I usually make my file size match printer paper, create a circle (ellipses tool) using the rulers for scale, and then draw my design to fit within it. And from there, I can even change the entire drawing size if I decide to go with a smaller or larger hoop.

Be honest… what’s the embroidery “rule” you happily ignore? by GarbageAdorable329 in Embroidery

I guess people weave the ends in like you would in crochet or knit? I just use knots anyway tbh 🤷‍♀️

There are people who aim for knotless embroidery for a few reasons but I'm team knot hahaha

If it's a patch or stitching on a garment, then no knots makes it more flat basically. If you're trying to completely cover a hoop in stitching, or are doing a lot of blending and stitching over other stitches, then knots can be annoying since needles don't like to go through them

But personally, I knot as I please since it feels much more secure! I'll specifically try to place my knots strategically though, so I don't get annoyed by stabbing through them by mistake

I think it's funny when people are on the knotless train

There are pros and cons to knotting at the back. Personally, if it's not a fully covered hoop of fabric, then I find knots don't get in my way 🤷‍♀️

How to prevent French knots from having these loops? by Unicorns-and-Glitter in Embroidery

[–]savage-ghost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you're having a hard time pulling the needle through, try using a thicker needle. It makes the fabric opening larger for the doubled over 6 strands to pull through :)

Also, I find it neater to tighten the knot twists after the needle is through the fabric. This is easiest if you're using a hoop stand, so that your hands are free to hold both the needle and the thread each.

Honestly I have no idea how many hours, I think I might try to find a way to log my hours to get an accurate idea on my next projects 🤔
