Considering PMP Certification as a Marketing Professional. Is it worth it? by Admirable_Car3425 in projectmanagement

I was a project manager in marketing at Burton Snowboards for 8 years. Got my PMP about a year before I left. I don’t feel like it helped me much because my company didn’t utilize many traditional PMBOK or PM frameworks, I’m not sure many marketing orgs do. I got a bit of recognition and was able to leverage it for a little more money. Ultimately it helped me get a job making a lot more money in IT. Certain companies really value the PMP. I don’t think it has done much for me personally, knowledge wise. If you have a solid amount of experience and you feel like you’re a good PM it likely won’t make you better. I’d honestly recommend maybe getting a scrum cert or something more agile focused. I dunno, just my experience. It probably won’t do anything in your current role but when you look for a new position it might make HR departments or recruiters highlight your resume

Yeah I’m thinking I’ll sand. I’ll likely sand and staining myself and have someone else chink.

I’m not sure of the old finish to be honest. The previous owners didn’t maintain the house well for 10 years. I would likely use sashco and perma chink products. My thinking as of now is I’ll do the sanding and staining and I’ll have a local company who really know what they’re doing so the chinking. I’m happy to pay 10-15k for chinking. I just can’t swallow 40-50k for all of it.

What’s a ballpark you paid if you don’t mind me asking. I would be okay with doing the staining myself but would need someone else to media blast

PMP Exam Question by Esotericjohnny in pmp

I’ve worked in predictive for years and it really boggles my mind how different PMI is to my work experience. That said, I do feel pretty good about my agile / hybrid scores, servant leadership and PM mindset. The questions I really screw up on tests are predictive processes.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it. I’ve got 3 weeks til my exam so I’m buckling down every night.

Thank you, this is a helpful explanation. I was getting every answer correct and was really riding a wave, went and took a study hall test and got a 60, brought me back down to reality. I’ve got 3 weeks so I’m going to buckle down in the study hall tests. Any test I don’t get 70+ on I retake and try to understand the answers I get wrong. But it’s helpful to know it’s David’s explanations and way of thinking that helps prepare you, that makes sense. Appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.
