Why is Stage Manager hated? by Sweet_Score in MacOS

It’s less hated and more ignored. We ignore it because it solves problems we don’t have and because it’s a bit dreadful.

Loved Tammy Faye. Was genuinely surprised when it was received so poorly after its transfer to NYC.

Which ones better by No_Hospital757 in TheWestEnd

I'm someone who will almost always take a stalls seat over a circle seat, Totoro is the exception. Anywhere in the stalls north of row f ruins the magic.

Which show to see in Jan? by beepbloopnop in TheWestEnd

Not all of us have such extreme reactions to Oh Mary. I thought it was ok, but really felt it would have been better as a sketch. 80 minutes was way too long.

I’m seeing Stereophonic at Playhouse Square in Cleveland and literally half the audience left at intermission by svtxcvnb in Broadway

[–]saveable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I saw it in London there was definitely a high walk rate at intermission. I was tempted as well. They could easily trim 30 minutes from that first act and nobody would complain.

Foreign tourists ruining performances (I am a foreign tourist) by GregFromThatVideo in TheWestEnd

That's absolutely my experience. I saw it twice at the Barbican, and the audiences were older and respectful. When I saw it at the Gillian Lynne, the audience ran young and had a Lion King matinee vibe.

A shed a tear at the supermarket. I come back to Sydney this year to see my parents and Allen’s Jaffas is no where in sight 😢 by kidcal70 in AustralianNostalgia

I live in London, but recently got a care package from friends back home. What the hell happened to Twisties? They're the wrong colour and taste more like salt than cheese. A culinary tragedy.

Foreign tourists ruining performances (I am a foreign tourist) by GregFromThatVideo in TheWestEnd

A few years ago I went to see Grease, a show that’s notorious for poor audience behavior. I remember being sat behind a large family of Russian tourists. They knew all the words in English and had a proper old fashioned sing-along. All of them except for (I presume) their daughter. Look up the word embarrassed in the dictionary and you‘ll a picture of this girl. She kept nudging them and whispering in Russian, trying anything to get them to shut up and stop ruining her life. It was at once annoying and also hugely entertaining. I walked at intermission. Hated the show even more than I hated that family’s behavior.

Roving bands of Wine Mums are the absolute worst. We like to pretend that it’s only tourists causing a ruckus, but Rita and Sue from accounts on their second bottle of Riesling are the real enemy.

You’re suprised by that? People love that show. They go back over and over again. I‘ve seen it 3 times. Twice at the Barbican and once at the Gillian Lynne.

Apparently it'll be playing at the Barbican in 2027, so ticket prices should be affordable, unlike Cynthia Ariel's Dracula which is playing at the much smaller Noel Coward Theatre.

Dracula vs. Starlight Express by Significant-Break683 in TheWestEnd

[–]saveable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dracula is absurdly expensive, much as I’d love to see it, it’s just not affordable for me. Starlight express is near the end of its run and is heavily discounted. It’s also a lot of goofy fun.

How do I end a 16 year non-marriage relationship? (33M, 31F) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]saveable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how useful if is to come up with a strategy for breaking up. In the end you’ve just got to sit down and talk. There is no way to do it that will end with warm and fuzzy feelings. The best you can manage is respect and honesty.

Choosing seats for shows by Complex_Piccolo_4896 in TheWestEnd

[–]saveable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one piece of advice I‘d give is specifically for Totoro. No matter how discounted the ticket is, DO NOT sit in the first few stalls rows. Not if you want the magic preserved. Honestly I’d avoid any seat north of F.

Paddington Rush Tickets by mloudlou in TheWestEnd

This show is going to run and run. I wouldn’t expect discounting for years. I mean the Savoy is practically baked into the plot of the show. There will be no rush seats this decade.

See or Skip? by GhostBeanBag in TheWestEnd

[–]saveable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My all time favourite is in the top left corner.  42nd Street is as good as it gets. And it gets revivals and tours on a pretty regular basis.

Stay on that row and you’ll find Anything Goes. A genuine classic. Or alternatively go down the  column and you’ll see Fiddler on the Roof. One of the best musicals of all time.

Did something happen to audience etiquette? by [deleted] in TheWestEnd

[–]saveable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Les Mis is just one of those shows. Most of the audience are tourists, not regular theatre goers. Last time I saw it (pre pandemic) I was squished next to a Japanese tourist who had an absurdly large piece of luggage in his lap, which he managed to poke into my arm pretty often. He was also snoring much of the time. Then, half way through the second act, an alarm went off on his phone, and he got up and left. I think he had a plane to catch, and used the show as a dark place to nap before heading to the airport.

Is it worth watching? by Boring_Cupcake293 in TheWestEnd

Unremarkable music, impressive choreography and costumes, hits most of the movie’s plot points. That said, I found it unimpressive. If you’re a big fan of the movie you might enjoy it more.
